What I mean is weapon vs weapon. So when will I know which lance is even with, lets say, a sword.

It is kind of hard to compare like that. You will see a higher base/raw DMG on a Greatsword compared to a Longsword because a longsword is going to attack much faster so... lower raw DMG.
Usually a good rule of thumb is that the Lance you make from Rathalos Materials... is about as good as a Greatsword made from Rathalos Materials =P I know that seems simple, but it really doesn't need to be more complicated. You don't ever have to switch weapons at all if you don't want to.
I figure that if i am more comfortable with Hammers and am using one slightly less powerful than a Greatsword that i completely suck at, well, that is a factor when it comes down to it.
Really, use what you like. If you know that you are going to be farming a certain boss, say... 4,000 Rathalos for a Rath Plate then work on getting the best Thunder Lance you can. Could you make a higher Raw DMG Rusted Weapon? Sure, but you don't HAVE to. That make much sense?
I got the Lagia online urgent last night and I had a party willing to do it but I ended up bouncing after the second run because I really needed to go to bed.
Anyone wanna help out with it? Honestly I could probably solo it but I'm lazy. Only need just one person that knows his move-set but I'll take anyone honestly since I already know we're gonna win.
I SHOULD be home today at the latest by 7 P.M. I'll post again later on to confirm that I'll be on otherwise disregard this post.
Edit - Forgot minimum HR requirement is 14
I'll gladly go and help. Needs moar mats to make the full armor set. I don't have my ID number with my atm, but character name is Darexi.
Unfortunately that is only 4pm for me, so I likely won't be home & able to help until nearly 9pm your time. This is all assuming your time zone is matching your loc. under your profile AoE.
Speak up in topic later & if you still need it done let me know. Otherwise I will likely be staring at a buggy as fck Skate 3...
Finally finished my quropeco armor set last night so happy I don't think I have to hunt that bird anymore. Well maybe for 1 more strange beak.
Going to attempt Barroth again tonight.
Don't go bowgun until you're rich or have enough materials. Been stuck at 15k since I started to gunbow.....
I have some questions about that actually. Not about the weapons, but the elemental strengths/weaknesses of monsters.
Rathalos, for instance, I was under the assumption it was a Dragon mob and not Fire technically, so would it be weak to the Dragon element? IE: The Dragon Phial crystal series for instance.
Now besides that. What exactly is weak to what? My friend explained to me I think it works that Fire is weak to Water, Water is weak to Thunder, and Thunder is weak to Fire.
Fire and Ice are weak to each other(?)
And Dragon is weak to Dragon, I think. I could be dead wrong on all of this, but would help me down the line if someone could verify lol.
Rathalos is weak to Ice and Thunder.
Element weaknesses are a bit inconsistent with what you would expect based on their attributes between monsters. The best way to check (other than looking at a damage chart) is to look directly at that monster's armor set and see what weakness/resistances are on them.
Example: Rathian and Rathalos blade sets both have -4 Dragon resist and -2 Lightning, with +4 Fire if memory serves. Dragon damage is going to slice through them like butter, lightning less so but still effective, and fire will be near entirely useless on them.
And Dragon
Edit: Nvm. Weak to all 3. Got it.
Edit2: Oh, I didn't even think to look at the armor resistances -_- thank you lol.
He's actually far more damaged by Dragon than any other element.

Good, looks like I made the right choice going with the tough break SA for him.
So in the later ranks of the game(online, anyway) you fight harder versions of previous monsters(in order get + versions of their supplies)? Sounds kind of crappy. Are they harder in more than just stats or do they get new tactics/attacks or do they at least attack faster/punish better?
Well for one in higher ranks you spawn at random locations on the map with the possibility of spawning near the monster or the starter area.
Because the maps in this game are so simple I don't even know why people bother to take the map because it takes up inventory space.
I just started HR+ stuff the other day so I'm still new to this but they don't seem as hard as the first time. You also have to worry about Deviljho appearing while you're fighting a monster. I was fighting peco online once and jho showed up after we captured it.

Bad bad Evil Joe!
I use this for just a quick glance look at weaknesses:
http://www1.atwiki.com/mhiii/pages/5.html
It is a few numbers off of te GameFAQs page, but if i just want a simple "What is it weakest to" answer in .2 seconds, I use that. There are a few on there that still have their Japanese names, but it is easily Sherlock'd. Again, this is something that isn't 30 pages long that takes half a second to figure out when you just want to swap in a weapon or armor and gtfo.
As Elitist as Fck as Lord Grahf is, I would still trust his charts if you absolutely need spot on numbers or stagger limits (which really are moot anymore, as it is much less likely to trip lock a Boss).
Also BRP, generally speaking yes. HR+ is always just the same ol monsters with more HP that do more DMG. You get to start all over in a sense. That Barroth Armor you farmed forever to complete? Well now Hunter+ or Chainmail+ has way more DEF than it does, so time to start over!
I guess it could be seen as somewhat lame if you weren't at all used to how this series has always worked though.

Just got home, gonna post this up.
Info's in my sig. Also I'm KB only.
Good luck AoE, stuck at work for at least another 2-3 hours. Hope you find some non-suckos to help ya. I have really only had 1 bad night as far as 'pickups' go but BOY did the bad night really try hard to suck as possibly as it could... good lord.
Sorry sorry, only good thoughts.
