The good strategy is the same strategy for most monsters: Hit him and don't get hit.

Learn his attacks, only 2-3 of them actually poison you and they have ridiculous tells:

    - The deadliest attack is the one where he spreads his "wings" (is that what these things are? who knows) and slams the ground, spreading poison everywhere. The tell for this is really obvious, if he stands still for a bit and then reels back a bit, get out.

    - One of his eggs is a poison bomb. If you actually get hit by this,

    - He can spit poison as well. When it looks like he's going to do it, dodge to the side. All of his attacks are dodgeable by rolling left or right, so it's always safe to do so.

I couldn't get myself to use a sns on MHFU so I figured I would try it out for Tri.

What's a good enough armor set for sns? I'm working on getting the elemental weapons for each monster's weakness.

For low rank, Lagiacrus is generally the best SnS armor (and all around the best low rank armor, period).

However, SnS pales in comparison to the other weapons, so be prepared for slower (but safer) kill times.

I am using long sword and lance. I switch between Spiral Lance and Anato Bonesword (sp?).

The only poison attack I really get hit with is the giant spread of wings thing. The other attack that is an issue for me is the one where she ( I assume she because of the eggs ) hangs from the ceiling and then grabs you.

My main issue is that Gigginox is so fast and does the poison attack so often that I will get taken down because I don't have time to drink an antidote and then potion.

With long sword I take more damage because there is no blocking but I can run around faster and do more damage faster. With lance I get poisoned more often but take less regular damage. But when the shit hits the fan with lance it is tough to get out of there.

I really want to farm Gigginox though because I want to get the Shadow javelin and later the Toxic Javelin.

I think you just need to be more careful. The whole "with Longsword I take more damage" is a dead giveaway. Monster hunter rewards patience and careful evasion. Spend some time watching the monsters and learning their tells, or you'll pay for it in the higher tier quests.

When I fight nox online or offline I use "Flame" ian/los LS. I use the hit & run tactic against him rather than being in his face.

When he gets knocked over(if I'm online) I move to the other side of the body and spam spirits and run the fuck away. He really isn't that hard of a fight to be honest. He tracks body heat some using a cool drink helps, use cold elimination(HI) so you can survive without a hot.

Yeah you are right I think I just need to be more patient with it. I also need to be on top of killing the eggs before I get over run with giggi.

I need to farm him a bit more as well. I have never had many issues with him really. Mr. Bob's tips are really all ya need though. I usually just use Hammer on him, though I suppose I could do LS as well. I just have a much stronger Fire Hammer than Fire LS. He will get lucky occasionally with poison, and if I am feeling cornered I will just sprint to the next area to drink an Antidote. Never under appreciate the use of fleeing to another zone to heal up... on any boss.

The worst two attacks in my opinion are the ceiling grab (if you are too close to cover enough ground to be out of range) and the lame as hell face swipe right to left that just has ridiculous range.

If you are lucky enough to have a sheathed weapon but are not out of range, leaping dive will take care of either of those.

Really, whenever it is on the ceiling I am running to the other end of the area, chances are that he will try to the grab, miss, then leap down towards me. If I am far enough away that opens it up to a few attacks right after it lands.

The other window of opportunity... I try to always be ready for him to run across the room, as he pauses a bit after. Also, when he is laying eggs (either kind) is a good time to aim for his feet or face. If you try to stay either in his 'armpit' or off behind him as much as you can, it can help.

I stun him a lot, which makes him flip over, not as fun to do with a LS I would imagine.

One of the most important things with Giggi is knowing its range and being just outside of it as he has decent length pauses after most attacks. I would aim for his neck/claws with a LS, and tail as well I suppose. I don't think Flashes work on him, but surely traps do? He seems fast, but he just jumps a lot and turns quite a bit. Now Barioth, he is fast...

My main weapon is definitely lance but I do enjoy long sword it is fun.

What are Gigginox's main weaknesses? Should I choose a specific weapon to do more damage?

Also how is damage calculated? For example, is a lance with 250 base damage and 150 water equal to 400 damage (if the monster is not immune to water) so would that lance be better to use than another lance with a straight base damage of 350? (hypothetical numbers)

One more question do boss monsters regain life over time if you walk away from them automatically or do they only gain life through abilities like quropeco can heal or by eating/sleeping?

Nah, it definitely doesn't work that way. You'll never deal 100% damage because swings vary in their damage, for physical. Anyway, if it's anything like 2ndG or Unite, then there are a shit load of factors you need to consider. I don't think there's enough data to figure out the damage output yet.

For example, let's say you're fighting Tigrex (thunder weakness), and let's assume you're using True Howling Devil Slicer (960 attack, 540 thunder) then:

    • Sharpness of your weapon: Purple 1.50
    • Divider (defense of the mob + rage): hypothetical 20
    • Tigrex's weak point defense (head): hypothetical 50
    • Element: 540 thunder

[ELEMENT x ESHARP x ELMZONE] / [DIVIDER] = Total Element
    540 x 1.50 x .50 / 20 = 20.25

As a rule of thumb raw > elementals. But shit is situational since I can kill Tigrex faster w/ a True Holing (960 attack, 540 thunder) than a Peerless Slasher (1440 attack), both LS.

again, http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/943655-m...tri/faqs/59207 for damage calculations. Giggi is weak against fire, and lance does benefit more from elements

Monsters regain HP by sleeping and pinning you down iirc

If Giggi is on the ceiling, sheathe and run fairly far away unless you're using hammer. If you're trying to avoid the ceiling leap attack, run into and past its shadow

Kind of a dumb impulse purchase, but I couldn't pass it up. For 8 bucks, I like the little thing.

Not sure what's deemed table breaker anymore.

I'm looking at the Ceadeus armor on the wiki and I'm kind of... confused. I would have expected it to be a lot ... Uh I wanna say better, but I could be missing something completely obvious about it. Earplugs and sharpness are nice but, just those 2, and 2 downskills are kind of meh to me.

Still, it really looks interesting. I kinda wanna farm for it just to look crazy like that lol.

Possibly a stupid question, but when is the 12-4 am maintenance? 12-4 PST? On Monday night or Tuesday? I thought about it while logging on now, but I got in just fine.

Edit: Apparently not tonight. Never got kicked off.

Also capturing quests that the monster never limps during are really fucking stupid. Did the 2x Barroth, first one went down fine then beat on the other one for a while. Tried capturing it after a good beating, didn't sleep so we figured it had a good deal of health left. No less then 2 minutes after that it died without ever showing any of weakness, quest failed. Garbage

It is incredibly foolish to do low HP capture quest (like capture quests with 2 monsters) without someone with Capture Guru. When a monster has low max HP, the capture range is very small. Blame your lack of knowledge, not the game.

Anyone get the Sharq lance yet? I got my coins last night. Going to hopefully finish it tonight. Looks like it should be a fun lance to play around with.
