Thank you for helping him in the most condescending manner possible.

I had the same issue, but then I put on a charm and a decoration for the skill. Worked out nicely, you need a paintball to tell though.

I'd have been nicer if his request wasn't essentially:

"I screwed up and went unprepared, and thus this game is garbage"

I am still trying to grasp how the statement "That particular type of quest is stupid" translates to "this game is garbage" in your mind. They are two very different things.

BRP did you get the Lance from Blood Sport? If you did is it good? Do you like it?

It was more of a 3 am rage post than anything, I won't shed too many tears over getting scolded. I do have an armor set with Guru gemed in, but I had already eaten a meal before the quest was chosen and considering Barroth's tendancey to rage combo me like a cockface, I decided to go with my +HP set instead.

I will say that is one thing that I really do disagree with in MH though; monsters/quests that pin you down and practically require you to have a certain armor skill. A bunch of the shit you fought in MHFU was basically "Earplugs/HG Earplugs or GTFO". If you didn't have it, as soon as the monster raged they got a free combo in whenever they felt like it, which depending on the monster generally meant you were just dead (hi2u G rank Khezu). It's much toned down in Tri compared with my experience in FU, I'll give it that, but it still kills a lot of customizability and individuality in play styles. I'd like skills to give you a nice edge on things when you match them to the occasion, not being the deciding factor whether or not you fail the quest.

Yes, but I only use it on things which happens to weaker to fire than ice and that hasn't been a lot of monsters for me recently. Though it gets really good once I update it. Shark + Gunlance + Tusk are probably going to be my three lances until the end of the game.

Want to focus on bowgun now.

Other than HGE for Diablos, or capture guru for a dual monster quest (were there even capture dual monster quests?) I don't recall any skills being necessary in Tri. Altough I will agree that roars could get hella annoying in MHFU

I've not had trouble with capturing even without the perception jewel set. Maybe I've just gotten lucky, but I've been through the whole single player and up to HR27 or 28 now with I think 1 failed capture because we wailed on a Barroth too much lol.

The more I think about HG earplugs, the more I really am thinking that Ceadeus armor would be great to have. There's quite a few monsters that roar when you get close enough for hits, Uragaan especially.

By the way, with the Ceadeus I've fought him 3 times and repelled him 3 times. CAN you slay him in the single player fight? Also, do you ALWAYS repel him or something? I mean that by, each time I've been down to the wire with like 40-50 seconds left and he's gotten repelled, I was wondering if its like a set thing if you do enough damage that he leaves at that point.

For me, the first fight is a repel & the second is a kill (actual kill, with carves). His HP does not regen after the repel so you are just not doing enough DMG to him in the fight after you repel him.

With Undertaker Lance it generally takes me 10 mins to kill after the repel. That is with the Dragonator once & sometimes twice in the first fight & not ever borhering with Ballista.

The Undertaker is a very nice weapon for this fight.

Ah, alright that makes more sense. Now, does that mean every time you fight him with that quest you WILL repel him, OR if you damage him enough after the repel you will kill him? I'll have to work on my tactics. Like I said, underwater is still not my forte so that works against me.

Been using the Tough Break switch axe on him, since it has some dragon additional effect damage. Should I go back to using Blitzkrieg with higher straight damage?

I would say that if the weapon DMG difference isn't much different (relatively...) then use the one that you are most comfortable with? As you said, underwater isn't your bag, so taken into consideration you want to at least have your most comfortable weapon.

Once you repel him, you will get your Quest Complete rewards. The next time you do that same quest, you will notice (and probably have) that he starts in Area 3 now, rather than swimming in 1. (PS. Take a look at your tent/bed at camp, follow the wall to the right of it and jump off THERE and not the normal jump off point. That will put you right near the zone into Area 2.) Anyway, that he starts in 3 is all the indication you will need to know that you can kill him in this 30 min limit if you do enough damage.

Guy has something like 15000 HP, hence why killing him in one round is unlikely (if not impossible game mechanics wise).

Once you kill him, the next time you take the quest he will be swimming in 1 again. So once you have it down it will basically go Repel > Kill, Repel > Kill, etc. I think i have repelled him 4 times and killed him 3 times? Have all pieces of the armor other than the one that needs Deep Dragongem. Not sure if I will make the armor or save the gem for a weapon.

You could also farm Volcano for Rust Shards hoping for the lance =P It really is a joke with that thing.

EDIT: It also just occurred to me. I am referring to the quest called "The Decisive Battle" and NOT the Quest "Save Moga Village." You cannot kill him until you unlock The Decisive Battle. The other is a Repel only quest i believe, as I don't actually remember if the quest stays there once you DO complete it. Just thought I would add that though.

Ah yeah I have been doing the Decisive battle one. I just actually *killed* him now for the first time. I think I repelled him twice lol.

That tip about jumping off the other side of camps helps, thanks. I've been swimming all the way around like an idiot lol. I got the Deep Dragongem off the first repel off of him actually, just farming the rest of the stuff then I think I'm going to make the armor. I have the Inceadeus SA already, favorite looking weapon in the game so far.

I might look into trying lance. My one friend uses that a lot and I watch shit bounce off of him constantly with the Ingot armor. I think we're going to be farming Agkagator or whatever his name is for his armor for him.

Oh man Kadaj, I forget the "BIG" tip. Are you using the Dragonator? That thing will usually break his horn without ever having to hit it otherwise.

If you aren't using it, then here is some halp. If you are, then just ignore this...

Basically once you are in Area 3 (during Repel, not kill obviously) at some point he will kind of make a bee line to the side of the map. Look HERE. He will head towards the entrance to Area 2 kind of, kind of right where the "R" is in the "Rations" text.

Anyway, once he starts beelining it over there I just leave him alone and head to the Dragonator and wait. He will hit that R, turn around and swim to the Dragonator. Tilt your camera to watch him 'climb' up that wall in front of it. He will kind of lean into the ledge you are on, just to your right really... kind of put his face on to that ledge. That is when you want to use the Dragonator.

I never miss (not that it is really that hard) and sometimes, time allowed it will actually reset and be able to use again (you will see a message on screen that it is ready again).

Hope that helps. That lets you break his horn and get the two carves off it on every repel pretty much.

Save your deep dragon gem for high rank armor later on if you are interested in Caedus+ imo.

That's one thing I've been having just a bit of issue with, when to actually use the damn thing. I DID manage to break the horn on the 2nd fight using the dragonator, and I was kind of confused because I hadn't been wailing on his head, and I didn't actually HIT him in the head with the dragonator lol.

Other than that lucky shot, I've been trying to uhh.. like lure him over and hit him with it. But now that I know he'll do a maneuver like that I can wait it out. Thanks a lot for the tip :D

    Edit:

TBH I feel like I'll be playing this a long time anyways. I'll be farming Ceadeus later on with friends so I'm not too worried about rare drops being used.

Edit2: Only downside I still see with it is the absence of slots. I'll really need to find some good talisman items that have +8 or +9 to something really useful.

I say skip Ceadeus' low rank set because you're eventually gonna need a +set for the defense (unless you're really REALLY good at dodging everything).

You can upgrade Ceadeus set into a "high rank" set but you need monster parts for that, and I'm not sure if you'll have access to those parts for a while

Are there 2 separate options for armor+? Like, you could make it out of new parts or upgrade old parts? I haven't looked it up yet.

You can upgrade low rank armor to have the same def as high rank armor but it'll keep the initial amount of gem slots

High rank ceadeus armor (head and arms have 3gem slots) requires conquer seals, which you get after you fight alatreon

Oh I get it. So I'll have to make whole new sets for more of the armor slots I see on the Wiki. Alrighty, thanks.

    In a choice between 1026 dmg / 0% Affinity and 972 dmg / 15% Affinity, what's the better deal?

Feel free to add other situational / armor details.
