In a choice between 1026 dmg / 0% Affinity and 972 dmg / 15% Affinity, what's the better deal?

You can check by calculating average damage from affinity. 15% affinity gives you a 15% chance to crit, which does 25% extra damage. So you have the equivalent of a 1215 damage weapon 15% of the time. Taking the average with the affinity counted for gives the second weapon an average damage of 1008.45, so the first weapon is better. Generally speaking, when you have a choice between something with affinity and something without, the version without affinity will be better. The only exception I can think of is the high rank Spiral Lance, as both versions have the same raw and elemental damage, so you want the affinity in that case.

I just started doing the online quests with my friend. We are both HR6 right now.

Do you unlock the next tier of quests by simply ranking up? For example can we spam the quest killing a Royal Ludroth over and over until we are a high enough rank to do the two star quests or do we have to do the annoying resource gathering quests?

Have to do some key quests to get the urgent when you're high enough but other than that, you can spam the same quest to rank up. I'd recommend Qurepeco for your level.

Quropeco gives more points than Ludroth? We were doing Ludroth because it was super easy and thought it gave more points.

Yeah Ludroth actually does give more points but not by much. However I think the mindset is that fighting underwater usually slows down a kill and you don't have to worry about that with Quru. However ultimately it boils down to which you can kill faster.

Got the game; no real problems so far. Except I just bought an Ancient Mask and I don't see it as an option to equip anywhere. It lets me pick any of the other masks but that one isn't there. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Same. Working on basically the same line I did low level except I'm skipping the Jaggi armor. Working on Ludroth+ now with that smexy cap. Going to miss my Rathalos and Ceadeus armors though.

At least you don't have to redo all your weapons as well. Almost have my barroth switchaxe up to final tier, same with crystals one... But god damn if the Jhen SA isn't the sexiest one.

Edit: Quick question. How is it determined when your status affect will proc on a monster? Does it have to do with the damage the effect causes? Like will I have more of a chance of paralyzing a monster when I have +300 paralyze over +200?

Also another question... Is it true that you getter more and/or rarer items from a hunt if you capture instead of kill to carve?

Capturing is generally better than carving, yes. You get more rewards and more rolls at rare items. Get the capture+ skill to improve this even more.

If you are doing a quest that the goal is to kill a monster will you pass the quest if you capture instead? I need some Gigginox items and I think it would be best to capture but there is no capture quest for Gigginox at least available to me right now.
