Finished first Barioth fight a few minutes ago. Offline, no deaths, captured. Still...

Holy balls, that's a fast kitty. Thankfully he was predictable; I could tell he was about to attack whenever he started moving. Unfortunately counterattacks with lance hit him about a quarter of the time, and I only broke one of his spikes in that whole fight.

I need to get back up to speed on a Great Sword set so I can go after specific parts instead of just counterthrust/repeatedly poking whatever is in front of me (sorry, cha-cha). Stonewalling the mob is just so tempting though. Recommendable Great Sword armor skills and weapons for offline?

Tried DMZ, new IPs, etc... nothing. It was working GREAT for a month.
It's all good man, I got all summer vacation to get it done. I'm not even in a rush to move on to high-rank missions. Just needed to vent a bit.

Sorry about your connection issues. I actually had some of my own. Bought a new cable modem because for as long as I've lived in my house (was built in 2000 so we're the first residents), the connection was a bit shotty. So had Time Warner activate my new modem and I was still having problems. After trying a bit of different things, I came to the realization that my mom paid private contractors to do our basement and I remember one time when we got work done with Time Warner, the guy told us whoever wired our house did a very shitty job because they focused on saving money instead of being efficient so our signal wasn't very strong.

To keep a long story short, I brought the modem somewhere else and my connection is better than it's ever been. I dunno which ISP you have but if you're able, maybe you can move your modem a few places around the house and see if there's a difference. If there is, maybe the blackout fried some wires or something causing your signal to suffer. Either that or call your cable ISP and ask them to check your power levels.

If you want help, I'll help. Think I am mostly done with this game from now, but I am pretty sure I can help with most things.

Unfortunately moving the modem isn't feasible really as the Wii is the only thing (other than my laptop) that i connect wirelessly with. The PC/PS3/360 are all wired. Every now and then I will notice that PSN will get super slow, or a Demo DL will take waaaay longer than it should. Usually just resetting my router and then re-setting up the ports for those two fix the issue. This time however, I just can't seem to win.

    Hate it.

I just have to rant I fucking hate Barioth. I breezed through the offline quests and now I am completely stuck on Barioth. He is just so fast and does so much damage with every hit. I try to dodge and I never seem to be far enough out of the way. Ugh it is so frustrating. I was using the lance and being super conservative working him down slowly. I broke one of his wings and both of his tusks and he was limping and then he went crazy and killed me three times and I failed. Maybe I wasn't being patient/careful enough.

If he was limping why didn't you capture him instead of going for the kill?

Well it was very stupid of me but I forgot to bring tranq bombs when I went. It was my first time fighting him that I got that close. I haven't been able to get him limping again since though on subsequent attempts.

Barioth is pretty BS all around. His attack and jump back sets him up perfectly to combo you as soon as you recover from a hit, so more than likely you'll get stunned and face raped. Your best bet solo is to trap him as soon as you encounter him and wail on a leg hoping to break it. If he doesn't rage from that toss down another and try to finish off the leg. Once you break his leg he loses his grip and reels a bit after all of his lunges, so you have an opportunity to attack. If you're good at predicting his movements you can actually dodge into his armpit MHFU Narga style, but that may require dodge armor skills to give you enough invulnerability time. It works out a lot better online since his attention isn't pointed at you at all times and you get a chance to run in behind him, just grit your teeth and bare through the solo as best you can.

Also, Alatreon is a worthless cocknosed shithead cuntface.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I am going to attempt him again tonight. I took down Rathalos last night fairly easy second attempt, no faints completed both subquests. But I am still stuck on Diablos and Barioth. I think maybe I will farm Rathalos a little bit to make that flame long sword and some of his armor then try Barioth again since he is weak to fire.

I farmed quite a few Charms before Barioth and was lucky enough to get an Evasion +5 gem. I had a couple pelts from barely beating him a time or two before that to make a couple Evasion gems. I tossed those on a Qurupeco set for Evade +2 and he was much easier with that. The ability to roll easier through most of his cheap shots really helps.

Once I had Evade +2 I farmed the hell out of him. Start the fight with a Pitfall Trap for the subquest, bomb/break his wing/claw for the 2nd subquest which will give you a 2nd Pitfall trap at camp. From then on I would just work on his other claw and then his face/fangs. I found that Evade +2 just gave me that extra bit of time that i needed to really get the timing down on him.

If that is an option (charms are super easy to get by spamming the Uroktor quest, and going the full 50 mins farming Rustshards too if you felt like it) then try it out!

Diablos is gay with shit sharpness weapons (going for horns). I tried it with a green hammer and it was a pain. What you do is bring a shit ton of sonic bombs and L+ bombs and when it digs underground throw the sonic bomb and it'll break its face easy (and do lots of dmg). Just remember sonic bombs dont work when it's in range. This is the best way to hurt it when it's low, as when its HP gets too low, any hit will put it in rage (like a faggot).

Ah, looks like Yahtzee wrote an "Extra Punctuation" to justify his controversial opinion! Thank God because it look like he was misinforme-

The main thrust of the argument was that Monster Hunter Tri totally gets good once you've gotten past the tutorial, which takes about ten hours of gameplay.
    Haha- Yahztee always exaggerat-

Ten hours. Do you people listen to yourselves?
    ...

EDIT: Though at least he expanded his criticisms:

Someone explain to me how it makes sense that you can only change your equipment in your bedroom.
Yes, he really does go off on this. LOL. "Locked into quests" too.

But at least he doesn't disappoint... We all knew this was coming:

Basically this involved me smashing my shortsword against his flank over and over and over again, chipping away at his wretchedly massive amount of health for half an hour because every other weapon was so fucking slow to use that he'd jump out of the way and slap me across the chops with his tail in the time it took to swing them. This isn't even mentioning the weapon degradation system, for which someone badly deserves a mongoose up the trouser leg. Every ten hits or so (with the stupid, stupid Wiimote controls) my sword would lose sharpness, to the point that every other blow would bounce ringingly off the monster's hide as if I'd hit the thing with a fucking bamboo walking stick. So I'd have to pick between trying to get through the fight with a half-useless weapon or run off to slide a whetstone slowly along the blade with even odds whether or not the boss and all his friends come over and interrupt me with murder.
Too bad he couldn't include his scrubiness in the original video.

As bad as the original review was and as horribly misinformed his follow up article is, I find the battle between ZP fanboys and MH3 fanboys in the forums hilarious.

As much as I love ZP, I never really took any of his reviews to heart. Especially for Wii games since he's biased as fuck.

Anyone down for some Agnaktor+ at 6:00p PST? Figured I might find some decent players here compared to what I've been getting...

    Alright here's another affinity question:

If I can get up to 45% affinity on a paralyzing weapon, would that be better than having the raw damage version? (The Shadow Binder, for instance. Higher raw dmg vs 15% affinity).
