I just hit HR 31 the other night. I can't wait to get to Jo and Alatreon. (I know I have a ways to go still)

Nah. You're not "getting to" Jo. Jo's gonna get to you.![]()
How often should I be upgrading armor? It almost seems kind of pointless for me to be doing it at HR14 because it seems like I can make the next best thing every new mission I get. I'm thinking about upgrading Barroth and Rathian to be my main sets until I can get lagiacrus under my belt.
I suppose it is up to you really and how much you FEEL like upgrading? I did a lot of my armors offline, because at least then I knew that no one would care if we were doing Lagiacrus over and over and over again for horns, or Barroth for Shells or whatever.
Because of that I have maybe 5-6 different sets and they were all fun to get. I was also then able to use them online and not have to worry about being unprepared as far as that goes.
Now I just need to find a group to actually help me with Jyen. No luck at all in the last few days and it is all i need to move on. Maybe this weekend when i get back to town I will have some luck. Had a few offers from people to help but timing is not working out.
I hate barroth so much right now. I cant get the hang of him. He is just sooooo angry all the time. XD
edit: Actually I've found that he is pretty weaksauce if I fight him with SnS.
Barroth is strange because when I first encountered him he was so difficult for me because I felt like he moved around so much but now he is super easy. Once you get past him you fight monsters that are even faster and more evil and then going back he is nice and slow.
I think I have had the most trouble of any monster with Agnaktor soloing offline.
I just finished my high rank Jaggi armor last night so happy. I have it gemmed so I have Attack up(L) Critical Eye +1 Gormmund and Negate Stun and no negatives.
Now I can't wait to start getting materials to upgrade my weapons again.
Wasn't there a thread for this the PSP game? Can't find it

Couldn't lance always dash forward while blocking? The shield bash move?Famitsu promised a big look at Monster Hunter Portable 3rd this week, and it delivered in a big way, with over 14 pages of content.
Taking up a good amount of space is a look at what's new with the game's weapons. I'm not much of a Monster Hunter player, but here's a rough translation of Game Jouhou's summary:
Sword and Shield
Has a "back knuckle" move, where you attack with your shield. Can also steal stamina.
Dual Sword
Has some sort of move called Kijin Kyouka.
Long Sword
The breadth of attack when charging has been improved.
Great Sword
You can now attack while stepping.
Slash Axe
Has poison effects.
Hammer
Can steal stamina.
Hunting Horn
As you attack, you store musical notes. Once you've stored enough, you can perform a musical piece for special attack effects.
Lance
You can dash forward while guarding.
Gun Lance
You now have access to a quick reload..
Light Bowgun
You can connect directly from a shot to a step.
Heavy Bowgun
You can attack while ducking, although you can't move while in this state.
Bow
Have access to three types of charging moves.
Probably worth making a thread when some new info/footage comes out of the game. Hunting Horn changes sound very interesting... the way it's worded sounds like it's completely changed, unless you can just do some extra stronger buffs or something through this new system and it keeps the old one on top of that. Hopefully "Kijin Kyouka" will make DS less "pop stamina drink and demon dance over and over", it's annoying seeing people do that shit nonstop.
It's only been in MH3
Also, Gamefaqs seems to give a little more info:
Funny, after MH3, I went to play MHFU for a little bit and thought "Man, HBG could use crouching or something to lower recoil!" Got it half-rightWeapons summary:
Great Sword / Single handed sword (sword & shield) / Lance / Tachi (Samurai Sword) / Light Bowgun
- No changes, retains same abilities from MH3
Hammer
- All attacks will now have KO abilities unlike MH3 where only some attacks have it.
Slash Axe
- Added poison and stamina destruction bottles
- You can now chain the infinite side swings to the overhead attack
Bow
- Stamina destruction bottles added
- New attack, High Angle Shot. Allows the player to shoot a bunch of arrows upwards and it lands on the enemy, dealing damage. While aiming, a red circle on the ground will indicate where the arrows will land. High angle shots are available in spread, concentrated and burst shots.
Gunlance
- Added quick reload which you can perform after you use a regular shot attack. Right after using quick reload, you can chain it to a full burst attack.
Hunting Horn
- Attack mode and horn blowing mode are now combined. That means, each attack you do will perform different notes and once you collect the right combination of notes, you will get the bonus power up.
- New attack which lets you attack the front and back.
Heavy Bowgun
- You can now crouch to fire. You can't move while crouching but this lets you fire multiple shots at once.
Dual Swords
- New Kijin (power up) mode & gauge added that works like the Tachi gauge
- You can build the gauge by attacking while in regular Kijin mode. When full, you go into the new powered up Kijin mode.
-While in the powered up Kijin mode, your attack and evasion speed increases until the gauge runs out.
Sad to see MBG let go though, is there any word on bowgun customization in MHP3?
what hammer + armor set is good to use at hr40? I just started getting into hammers but not really sure which one to make... I'm thinking for the armor something that gives sharpness, hge or focus are are probably the best?
I got the itch to play this and when I turned it on, my hunters seemed to have been rolled back a good number of months. Any up for helping me grind through my HR ranks?
What HR? I started back playing last week. I'm HR39 right now and having trouble finding people for the 4 star urgent.
Not sure what HR I was exactly, but I know that I was stuck on Jhen Moran -.-
If it makes you feel any better Jhen dies in like 10 minutes in Portable 3rd.
If my Wii were here I could jump online and do some quests. Alas.![]()
I might get online in a few before work. I don't remember my friend code so just tell me your names and I will find you.
I got the worst/best luck in this game. I got 17Ura rubie and 7azure gems along with a lot of other rare gems but I can't get a skypiercer or earthdragon gem for the life of me.
I'll have to look up my code next time I get on.
I'd be HR1, and I work 3rd shift on the east coast, but if anyone wants to team up I'm pretty good any day except Tuesdays and some Thursdays
Friend code in my sig. I'm usually on after 11 PM EST on weekdays, then on all weekend.
HR19 atm btw.
Bit of an old topic, but still viable. Wondering a few things, does anyone here still play this regularly? I have been itching to play more lately as MHPortable 3rd is just not as fun right now. Thing is, I am basically stuck at Low Rank Jhen and never had any luck getting a group to get past it with.
Second question, is the Low Rank Jhen soloable? Repel not kill of course, and obviously with Low Rank only gear. I don't have the Hellhunter Jacket either. Anyone know of gear/skills that would make this doable at LR? Guessing not, but wanted to ask. Otherwise, next time I am able to jump on I will just try my luck with groups... if anyone is still out there online.
