Think he was asking for a hand held console with full size controls, not an actual controller.

I agree that the PSP had its issues when it came to camera, but with everything else the game is... I just rolled with it and after a while I didn't really have any problem with it. You just have to know what to expect after a while, not get shoved in a corner, etc. I did notice that even in the Wii Demo when i was up against a wall with the camera behind me, things were kind of annoying.

Oh well, I am excited to play this, and the PSP release as well! Can't wait for either of them.

My bad, But honestly I'll be glad not having to claw to control a camera. It kinda hurts my hand after awhile even as I got used to it.

Like 3 of my local game stores said they won't carry the bundle so I might just order it off Amazon; does that release date shipment shit actually work?

Really? I might have to borrow my gf's PSP for a bit when this hits (yay lilac purple). I was attempting to find a used copy to try the system before preordering, but when the demo disc came out I went ahead and did. I fucking loved that demo.

I'm still a bit unlear on what exactly this game has that the other version doesn't and visa-versa. I'm guessing I'll have to keep waiting for awhile? It seems like specific details about it are sketchy beyond the weapon and monster list, but the areas didn't sound the same for some reason besides water.

Btw...what does the Hunting Horn weapon do? Or is that weapon completely new?

    http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Hunting_Horn_Guide

The Hunting Horn is similar to the Hammer in terms of power output if not a bit less damage. Much like hammers, hunting horns (or HH as they are sometimes referred to) can knock out monsters. What makes the Horn different from the hammer is its Recital ability which is triggered by pressing the "R" button. Each Horn has a different set of three notes that are different colors. Each Horn has three different notes which sometimes changes when the hunting horn is upgraded; so knowing what the notes are is a crucial part when choosing a horn. The Recital mode allows you to play the notes in a certain order to trigger positive effects for yourself or teammates.

Hunting Horn lets you play notes, which if played in a certain order, gives you and whomever you're with buffs; it's usually best utilized in parties. It also has two types of hammer swings. Not a new weapon though, it was in MHFU and maybe before that.

And Portable 3 will probably be like Freedom Unite, just with new monsters, setting, and the weapons they didn't include in Tri. What sets Tri apart is the whole underwater element iirc

Yeah, not much hope for true DLC, but Capcom does event quests quite frequently online. The content is nothing to get excited over (they throw multiple monsters together, or let you take on a monster that you normally wouldn't be able to access until a certain rank at a lower rank, that kind of thing), but event quests usually reward you with materials you can't get otherwise and make some unique weapons.

By the way, was kinda surprised to see an MH3 section here. This is the game I'm going to be playing online until FFXIV so hopefully I'll get to play with some of you.

Thanks for all the replies. The Horn sounds neat, but I'm not sure if it's my style. I know you're idealy supposed to get used to all the weapons but I can't help having a few favorites.

I actually first got interested in the game from the free controller and stuff coming with it, but it helps that the game is a lot of fun so I actually follow through with the entire purchase instead of just buying the controller and only wanting to play a few of my older games with it. CCPro is boss. I never was very interested before because I never actually knew anyone with a PSP who played this for the ad-hoc stuff, and the PS2 games are non-existant at used game stores I have in my area. It being online is a very good thing for anyone who lives outside of Japan.

No reason to get used to all the weapons. I've put hundreds of hours in to MHFU and I only have a handful of uses on Hunting Horn. Almost all of them were clearing the trainings.

Ideally you probably want to get comfortable with at least one of the ranged weapons and a couple of melee ones. But you can get away with using just one weapon on absolutely everything if you wanted to. I pretty much used Long Sword exclusively when I first started, then when I was a bit more comfortable with monster patterns I moved on to Great Sword and rarely touched anything else. Although now that I'm basically done with the game I just fuck about with Sword and Shield and Dual Swords helping lower rank friends out.

Edit: Missing the stats from like 120 hours or so of Freedom 2, since it didn't track uses back then. But this is around 300 hours worth of Freedom Unite stats for me. If I want to wreck shit fast nowadays it's Great Sword or Heavy Bow Gun, despite the low uses on HBG. Probably quite a few uses I didn't bother to save my game on too.

I completely agree with Kiarax. No. Need to learn every weapon in depth.
My first weapon of choice was Longsword in MHF. I will say that its quickness kind of spoiled me when later trying to learn the Greatsword or Gunlance.

Later on I used Hammer or Bow & had a lot of fun with Bow especially. Especially when I started Duoing with my friend. I also like Hunting Horn, solo or not it can be very powerful.

I think the first criteria should be what feels right be it speed, maneuverability, or hell... even looks. You are going to be swinging the damn thing around a lot. Possibly with other players, so knowing how your weapon works beforehand is a must.

Second criteria would be what you are fighting. At times a slashing weapon is not as useful as a blunt dmg weapon, whether that be because you are trying to stagger/stun or smash a chest plate.

You will find something you like for sure though, & then you will find something you love =P

It's been out at torrent places for a day or so now. How is it?

I don't know how to do the whole pirate shit for the wii. I'm buying to support any chance that mhfo or 3rd gets here soon as possible.

Just to note. Each AdHoc Party is region locked. I have the EU one, US one and JP one all installed on my PS3 and they all have separate user lists.

This will be my first MH game when it comes out, but for the multiplayer, is that for quests only and not story? Or is the story pretty much just doing quests? And will multiplayer be available at the beginning or close to it?

    Sorry for the newbie questions.

The story is: you are a hunter, hunt things. That is it. Multiplayer is normally available at the get go, but I haven't played Tri so can't confirm. Worst case is you'll maybe have to sit through trainings, which are definitely worth doing if it's your first time anyway.

There really isn't a story for MH games. You basically just go out and kill shit to get better weapons and armor and the thrill of the fight.

There are quests that only appear for online only and right now early copies won't be able to connect online until tuesday.
