Interested in this, this'll be my first MH if I get into it. What are the controls like? Responsive/action-game like, or blocky/RPG-ish?
I say responsive (think Demon Souls where if you hit at a wrong time, you're gonna get hit. Rolling/dodging/side stepping, blocking, etc). Should be less gripes about the camera since you have two analog sticks now.
Also, finally got to sit down and tune up my wii, monster huntan time!
You gotta go into this game with a bit of an ego. You gotta go in with the mind-set that you're gonna go in and own some shit. That way, when you inevitably get owned, you use that rage to get better and refine your skill instead of rage quitting which should be saved for the shitty drop-rates for some armors.
They are responsive, but the game is... well, stiff I suppose. It is not the traditional lock on and forget about it whilst you beat the shit out of things. You have to be very precise with movements and there's a lot of focus on playing it safe. At first you'll probably spend a lot of time waiting for the right openings to attack and learning monsters attack patterns. I tried playing the PSP version three times before I finally got into it, the first two times I played for a couple of hours and just didn't enjoy it at all, but once it all clicked it was a ton of fun.
All I suggest is if you're a bit put off by the way it controls at first is to stick it out for a bit and give it a chance to at least get to some of the big monster fights. The start of the game is generally trash mobs that you never fight again other than as a distraction during boss fights and it can be very aggravating. Tiny ass, fast moving targets when you're trying to get used to the controls is a bitch. Once you get past that point it's a very satisfying experience, especially playing with other people.
Gotta say, the wiimote + nunchuck isn't too bad. But of all things that are throwing me off, it's not being able to claw lol
You know, I actually enjoy not needing to claw.
I love clawing.![]()
Yep, claw lover here.
Same, fortunately MHTri has an option to use the second Analog stick for attacks, PS2 style, so I know I'll be 'clawing' my way though the game!
Can you use gamecube pads for this? Playing stuff with the Wiimote makes me sad.
No, but you can use the classic controller pro, which apparently, the mhtri team had a hand in designing.
I guess for me that while I enjoyed MHFU quite a lot, While I could claw well it doesn't mean I had to like it. I think there is issues when my hand ached after long bursts. I find the second analog so much more comfortable to play longer in.
The hell is clawing? >.>
The PSP games had a camera controlled by the D-Pad, with character motion controlled by the analog stick. So in order to handle all these things at once, you had your left thumb on the analog stick, your left index finger on the D-Pad, and your left middle finger on the L button.
I have to say after playing the demo and rolling all over Great Jaggi like a pimp I am so pumped for this game. Never got into the PSP games because of the claw.
I just ran around pressing L and turning the D-pad when I stopped running >_>
When I recently picked up MHFU again after some several months of being idle, my hand immediately went into claw-mode. :3
Now I gotta go and get my Wii back since the portable version won't be out for a few months.
even though i have the controller set up so that i can use the right analog stick to control the camera, i'm still using the d-pad :( hard to break the habit lol
