Surprised I managed to go through the game without any guide at all. I got stuck several times and had to go to bed before I could sit down and refigure things out.

6:33 and 70% item completion with no guides. Really enjoyed it.

Gotta say, when you get to ridley make sure you have full health, I accidentally went down there when I had 1.5 bars left, and won by hitting once and then using a save state, and repeating.

/ontopic I always like hearing about a new metroid coming out but I haven't played through MP:3 yet since I don't have a Wii.

Speaking of MP: 3 I could never finish the last fight because I was one item away from completion but could never find where it was. Scanned every stage nearly 8 times each and couldn't find it anywhere. Used guides to search each spot to no avail...

I can't wait for this one to come out, the trailer got me hooked on it a while back

Did you get the map enhancement that showed missed items as white dots on the map? I recall having a similar problem with one item being stubborn, though. Think it was at the pirate's base, or whatever, been too long. The dot was easy to overlook due the map layout.

I think Echoes was the only one I never beat, for a similar reason. I kinda' bypassed a lot of secrets because the whole light/dark world thing turned me off and made me not want to explore much. Thus, the boss kicked my energytank/missletank-lacking ass.

Ok the first few seconds of the Just Cause 2 ad scared the shit out of me. I was like "Oh my god what did they do to Metroid?"

Love hearing "Any objections, lady?"

I have to say I'm warming up to this game. I still maintain that it's a complete and utter departure from most of what I love about Metroid's style - the sense of being isolated in space, the minimalist story - but I'm willing to embrace the new focus on storytelling. I'm looking forward to finding out more about the character of Samus Aran. Looks like this will be our first opportunity to see more than a small glimpse of who she really is, and that's pretty exciting.

From the other trailers I've seen she looks the same as she did in brawl. Pretty sure what we're seeing in that one is a flashback, hence all the speech being in the past tense.

I'm pretty stoked about the game. As a huge Super Metroid fan I'm happy we'll be able to play as Samus in the side-scrolling view again.

Just noticed how much the mini-map gets in the way, hope there is an option for turning it off, or hiding it when fighting.

Odd controller usage, sideways for 1st person, regular way for 3rd person, and you have to switch back and forth a lot.

Plus, reports say that you can't move while in 1st-person-mode... thus, you run around a boss, he exposes his weakness, you go to aim, you can't dodge anything he does and you get your ass beat.

Don't quite understand what you mean here, did they change something in the previous games with the information we have now?

It looks to me that marrying the old and the new is exactly what they did. Side-scrolling + 1st-person view.

Alternatively, you can run around a boss, he exposes his weakness, you go to aim, you see that he's readying some type of move, so you quickly jump out of 1st person and move the hell out of the way.

The guy said that moving in and out of 1st-person is almost instant. It'll just force you to get good at/used to it.
