NSFW Sigs and Avatars

I am on the phone a lot at work and it is acceptable for me to browse the web while talking or getting other work done. I don't work in a slave mine, ffs. I'm assuming everyone voting yes is either never had a desk job in a corporate environment, or is that corporate environment's sole IT guy the rules don't apply to you.

To make it very clear - if I have a naked, or even half-naked, or see-through wearing, or anything like that on my screen - I could lose my job. Yes, it's that stupid in corporate America. So yes, Silentleroy, as much as I enjoy your avatar, I have to speedily scroll past all your posts so that its not showing on my screen, because my managers would definitely pull me into their office. I'm not saying this isn't a shitty policy, but its the policy nontheless and its been that way for every corporation I've ever been at.

However, I do like seeing a lot of the work-safe avatars and sigs that people have. It's part of the BG community, so I'd rather not have to turn them all off.

A dirty/not-dirty filter would be best, but since that doesn't exist yet, in the meantime I think it would be best if we kept it work-safe.

And to the people suggesting browse as guest, that's retarded. You can't post as a guest, so if you can't participate in the discussion, why browse a discussion board?

The way I see it, no one is going to not browse BG because they're not allowed to put nudies in their avatars or sigs.

On the other hand, a LOT of people won't be browsing BG at work or at school if it is allowed.

This sums my opinion up nicely, voted GTFO. Some avatars/signatures are already borderline in my opinion, I have to skim past them quickly... anything beyond that, not sure I'd risk visiting BG at work.

Which makes me think: Why can't BG just have a 'work safe' skin with avatars/sigs completely disabled? It's far less of a hassle on the users to switch forum skins than to dig through their User CPs every time they want to switch sigs/avatars back on. Or are forum skin preferences saved to your user profile as well, instead of just being a per-machine cookie?

I really never understood the "NSFW" deal personally, since browsing a website that isn't conducive to your work is probably not allowed in the first place. But I'm still a student so take that comment with a grain of salt.

I'm a software engineer intern, so whenever I compile my code I have at least a few minutes before my program runs. My bosses don't care if I surf the web during that time, so I come here to read the work-appropriate threads. If there are going to be NSFW items everywhere, instead of just in the marked threads, I just won't browse here at work. Sure, I can set the images/avatars/sigs to be disabled, but then I'd have to enable/disable them at work and when I get home. Having some way of blocking NSFW sigs/avatars would be acceptable.

Quoting this for emphasis why alienate a bunch of people? It would really suck if the entire site is NSFW at least now I know where to not go. There is plenty of nsfw stuff on this site but it is easy to avoid.

Freedom of speech is a political concept pertaining to government. A server is private property and they should do whatever the owners decide is in their interest. Things that are marked as NSFW are marked as such, so one has the option of making a judgment call. I do not think NSWF avatars/sigs will do anything but turn people (myself included) off from browsing, whereas the lack of them hasn't hurt anyone.
