So when I find the exact right combination of actions that lead to a completely screwed up encounter, I can blame some guy who I once had a conversation with? Awesome

Is this game really a lot like Mass Effect in terms of its RPG-ness? It seems like it is, with the strong focus on character interaction influencing how you're perceived along with being able to develop different combat skills etc.
I wonder how long 1 playthrough is supposed to be.
Yeah a lot of comments relate it to Mass Effect quite a bit. It looks like I'm going to beat it in 25-30 hours ish, for first play through. It depends on difficulty, how you spec your character, and which conversation options you choose (there is usually this option to "end conversation" at any time. Probably will piss off the person you're talking to, but you can shave some time off your playthrough if you always skip dialogue. But why would you want to play an RPG without story?)
25-30 hrs isnt too bad, especially if there's plenty of reason to replay which it seems like there is. Do you happen to know if your stats/etc carry over to subsequent playthroughs?
I also get the sense that the game is pretty linear, not saying that's a bad thing, but I was wondering if it was possible to replay missions/areas to get exp/items.
I'd gameplay has a lot of linear stuff, but it's difficult to get around that when you present the story like we have. The choices you make can cause the events to play out in different order (or not at all) as well as the levels themselves often have multiple ways to get through them (kill all, stealth, use gadgets etc).
As to subsequent playthroughts, I'm not sure what info we've released on that yet, but I will say we offer some incentive to people for playing through 2nd (and more) times![]()
rumor has it this was delayed til next year, I wonder if nitsuj can confirm/deny that
looks pretty cool; I'll probably give it a shot when it comes out.
also, props to nitsuj and obsidian for being cool with real community interaction like this.
This. Game was quoted to come out this year by one of the devs in some video. October specifically. Now I look at Gamestop and Amazon's websites, and they say July of next year? That would be a huge delay. I know a lot of those Gamestop dates change all the time and don't mean jack shit... Confirm/Deny?
Steam still says Oct 2009
Retailers Point To Alpha Protocol Delay - Sega - Kotaku
Gamestop's site shows 6/10/2010Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol—you know, the espionage RPG?—looks like it may not make its previously planned October release date. The Sega-published role-playing game looks like it will instead release next Summer.
Recently updated ship dates from GameStop and Amazon.ca list Alpha Protocol for June 1 and June 30, 2010, respectively. Most online retailers still show the game due the last week of October of this year, but if two independent retailers are showing a delay, don't be surprised if others follow suit.
If those retail listings are accurate, it wouldn't be the first time Alpha Protocol has been pushed back. The game was penciled in for a release as early as February 2009. Perhaps Sega took some of Sony Computer Entertainment America's rumored comments about the game to heart?
Whatever the reason may be, if Alpha Protocol has indeed slipped, it will join the recently delayed Blur as one of the many titles that will miss the typically heavy fall release schedule.
We've reached out to Sega of America to verify that change, but haven't heard back yet.
Rumor: this thread is very popular these days <3
Rumor: You guys at Obsidian are spreading release date lies, just to fuck with us on BG. :D
nitsuj, set it straight. Is it really delayed until next year?
FACT: All release date information has to come from SEGA, in the form of official announcement. When I know something from them, I'll post here.
We don't publish the game, we just make it awesome :D
