I've heard that this is botted so often that any regular player would need to be extremely lucky to actually find one. Is this true? Should I even bother? Screw the other items that come with it, all I want is the XP ring.

Someone i know found like 6 on the same day on different chars using bot, so yeah it can be a huge advantage. It got to the point he was just doing it for the random reward and to piss everyone off. However whether it's worth trying depends on your server.

Not anymore. Sometimes you see the message twice if you change zones shortly after one is found, but unless they didn't fix the glitch from the beginning of this event, there can be only 1 per zone per week.

I don't think that is correct unless this is a really recent update. The one time I tried (three weeks ago), I only ran around la thiene (never zoned), and I saw two being announced in west ronfaure (not even right after another, I think two were found in between it).

Yeah I noticed something similar a few weeks ago, saw the same zone announced twice a few minutes apart, so unless it was ninja'ed recently, its still possible for multiple tabs per zone.

It shows up on Widescan...

I know some people can debate this, but if you take my word for it, it's how I found mine. I wouldn't have the luck otherwise to walk by and just see it. RNG + Strider Boots helped.

However, I know some people that have searched entire zones with widescan, every last inch. They didn't see it, but a few minutes later, a tablet was found in the zone they just scanned.

I read somewhere that tablets spawn at different intervals and they all don't spawn at once, too.

So I have no idea, to be honest :/

I would just suggest to try running around with RNG (At highest widescan level) and just hope you're lucky. Keep Oils and Powders on you and sub BLM for warp, have a mule for teleporting yourself if you can.
