My computer speakers are playing talk radio.

Pretty much what the title says. I came downstairs today to have my roommate tell me to put my computer speakers up to my ear. Now, my computer was off, so I figured he was just fucking with me, but sure enough, I could hear some faint sounds coming out of my speakers. Now, I can't really tell what radio station it is, but I would have to guess that it is talk radio of some sort.

This is really confusing, help me BG.

Youve shitty speakers. Chances are your cell phone would have the same affect on them as a a near by radio. This is the reason why when youre in a plane youre asked to turn electronic equipment off. Electromagnetic interference.

    A) Deal with it.
    B) Move stuff away from your speakers.
    C) Get better speakers.

I'm using these, I didn't think they were that shitty, although they're about two years old. It just started within the last day, and it seems to always be going, and I haven't moved anything near it, or moved anything away within the last month.

It's all part of Glenn Beck's plan for world dominance! Your speakers need tinfoil hats to block the transmission!

Magnetic shielding is one of the things Logitech cheaps out on to have lower prices.

The same thing happens to my speakers. Also, whenever I get a text or call on my cell phone and it's by the speakers, the speakers always give off a beeping sound at least 2 seconds before the phone receives it.

Do you have a clock radio or anything with an AM/FM antenna in it close to the speaker wires? If so just try moving it away or separating the wires and see if that helps.

It's right on the wall connecting with the town house next door, so chances are my neighbor put a radio right up against the wall.

Your speaker wire is identical to many antennas used for AM radio. Dissimilar metals in the speaker can act as a type of diode (passive intermodulation) that will demodulate the Amplitude Modulated (AM) radio signal creating an audio signal. Your speakers are amplifying the very weak audio signal (because it wasn't really that great of an antenna or demodulator) and you get a faint AM radio station.

If you can get Frequency Modulated (FM) stations on your speakers... then I'd be baffled.

Wikipedia with relevant information... hmm, I can't post links due to lack of posts, so here's a copy and paste from Wikipedia.

    AM demodulation methods

The simplest form of AM demodulator consists of a diode which is configured to act as envelope detector.

Passive intermodulation (PIM) occurs in passive systems (i.e. the input signal is the only source of energy to the system) when the input signal is very high power, and the system consists of junctions of dis-similar metals or junctions of metals and oxides. These junctions effectively form diodes, which are non-linear.
