Subscription-Based Virus Protection

I use nod32 and just search for user keys posted on blogspot. Work just fine without having to pay for a subscription.

Avast is sounding more and more interesting, but so does that Nod32, and anything that reminds me of the Brotherhood of Nod is a good thing.

I don't think I said it before, but NOD32 was written a lot in ASM, machine language, meaning it has a very low memory footprint. That's why I love it.

Also, my sister got a bunch of viruses on her machine and NOD32 found them all in a scan when I installed it. I mean, I guess that's to be expected from an antivirus, but I *knew* the viruses were there, so if NOD32 didn't find it I would have cancelled my subscription immediately.

I've always been partial to Webroot myself. Very minimally invasive yet effective in prevention and detection.

Webroot is a pain.

Avast!5 Free and Microsoft Security Essentials (if your Windows is genuine) together will pretty much catch anything on your PC. Layered protection is always going to be better than any single program. Using those 2 together, optionally using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for your monthly scan and making monthly images of your OS partition and you shouldn't have any troubles.

Lastly, having a browser that blocks scripts/flash (Firefox or Chrome) also helps in preventing. So you don't have to pay for anything. And this is coming from someone who works w/ virus infected PCs daily. Sadly Avast and MSE have higher detection rate than most paid anti-virus programs.
