6 landed nukes = 960 mp, my pool is higher than that and you can fit 2 aspirs in on an elemental while it's in the air. Maybe a BLM wearing a NQ weskit, af1 hat, and diamond rings may not be able to do 2.5k, but I have no problems.

If you use less, it could still -ga and DA your tank. One roar or flail is all it takes for ouryu to go to shit.. why are you so stubborn? On top of all of that, if you force land instead of force fly, it's much easier to build hate on a slept mob than one constantly hitting you(and i know damage is negligible, but it's still decent CE loss in MDT set and a song loss in resist build).

In before mistmelts and sleeping it on the ground when you dedicated 12 slots of your setup to BLUs and BSTs.

If every BLM in your LS can do 2.5k damage per round Tiamat will ALWAYS get force landed
    That's the plan champ

But seriously, like everyone pointed out, fighting it with melee would probably be slower with the mp management you would have to go through to keep everyone up. I remember the first couple attempt we made, and it's not the kind of fight you want to do with melee.

If you zerg it, a ton of samurai is probably your best bet, but even if you manage to do it successfully and faster, the probability of a fuck up is too high.
You were around for the Kurokaze days when he didn't wanna manaburn anything in Atariii because it was "lame" right?

Believe we had BLU/WAR PLD/WAR tank with DRKs SEing everytime it landed (if they were lucky they would get roared and not die), and SMN dmg on ground / air. It took 58 minutes.

(in case you don't know, each single hit BLU spell only feed 10TP, plus they can always equip subtle blow to further lower it).
Wait, you can force Tiamat to fly like you can force it to land?

I always thought it was just set amount (approx 10%) to land it, but the same applies to force it to take off?

I might end up taking BLM up myself just so I can do this fight. >.<
You enter the fight through the 40 cap zone actually and the actual battle is uncapped. so you need level 75 blms.

That person was confused into thinking we were talking about the level 50 Ouryu fight for the CoP mission.

I thought it's pretty straight forward, didn't expect to have to lay out the details step by step to help ppl understand such a simple concept.

Do you just forget what BST are there for? Properly conducted Tiamat should not turn because hate generated by your BLU willl be transferred to jugpet.

Touchdown is a TP move, wyrm always reset their TP everytime they land on ground. BLU spell feeds 10TP for every hit lands. So 10 SATA feeds 100TP, plus you can always wear Subtle Blow gear to futher lower the amount of TP feeding (yes SB works on Spell too), get WHM to cast Auspice or COR to play MNK's rolls if you are so obsessed with Roar.

The whole process of getting 10 BLU to land SATA spells shouldn't take more than 20-30 secs to complete, and they should run out of range after using SATA, thus the chance of Tiamat landing an aga on your BLU is fairly low, your stunner should be able to handle aga spells in the first place plus BLU are self-sufficient in term of healing anyway.

There is no reason to worry about your tank losing hate, that's what BSTs are for, all the hate generated by your BLU are transferred to the jugpet, even if your tanks get roared Tiamat should turn to the jugpet, not BST or BLU.

Ok guess the only way to make thing easier for you to understand is to write down the numbers.

You are wasting your resources for bringing 10 super BLMs who can do 2.5k damage per round to Ouryu fight (assuming Ouryu can be force landed after 10k damage is dealt) since it's impossible for 10 BLMs to force land Ouryu with just 10 AM2 or aga3 so you will always need minimum 2 waves of fully unresisted nukes. 10k damage every 2.5 mins is the best you can do with 10 BLMs.

Now keep 1 BLM party, replace the other with 3 BLU + 1 BST + support. Each BLU will be able to do 2xSATA BLU. That's 1.6-2k damagex3 = 4.8-6k damage and only feed 60 TP to Ouryu. Plus your BLM can still ES sleep2 Ouryu between SATAs. Total damage = 14.8-16k damage every 3 mins, a significant boost to your damage output without risking dangerous TP moves.

A combination of manaburn and BLU burn will offer the best results.

Don't forget this strategy also works on HNMs that resist magical damage (Cerberus, Khimaira)

Crazy idea: Use SAM's to tank Khimaira/Cerberus, DRK's to tank Tiamat, RDM to tank Ouryu, and use DD's that don't rely on silly Beastmaster's to not die or cause a wipe.

I know it's from LOLOtherWiki, but

    Family: Wyrm

    Type: Magical

    Can be dispelled: N/A

    Utsusemi/Blink absorb: Wipes shadows

    Range: Unknown radial

Notes: Used automatically whenever a wyrm returns to the ground. Doesn't occur if Ouryu was grounded by Mistmelt. Bahamut uses this as a standard TP move.

Touchdown is listed as magical damage, only Bahamut using it as a "TP" move.

Jesus do you even know how snarl works? You don't need tons of BSTs. One is more than enough, use 2 if your tanks suck at tanking just to be safe. And there is no way they will cause BST to die or a wipe if you actually UNDERSTAND how it works.
You can use SAM or DRK to tank w/e you want and still combine this strategy to speed up the fight. The reason for using BLU/THF is due to the fact that they can deal large amount of damage at the cost of mere 10TP.

I don't have direct proof to show it resets Wyrm's TP but logic tells us it should. Otherwise it will be a really bad idea to use a single tank to hold Tiamat/Ouryu since they can still use horrid roar on the ground if your BLMs feed her enough TP in the sky.

I swear sometime SE try to change a job but the playerbase are simply too ignorant to appreciate the effort. Snarl turns BST into the best SATA partner in this game, but ppl simply do not understand how it can work. Here is another good example:

MNK: We may see an ability that would grant higher accuracy and subtle blow in exchange for lowered TP gain and a WS restriction.
Recently announced in Vanafest 2010, the consensus is "MNK get screwed again" and nobody actually understand how it can be beneficial.

One of the main reason for not using melee damage in HNM fight is TP feeding. The TP fed to enemy per hit is based on your baseline TP. MNKs are already capable of cutting their bseline TP to 25% with penance (25%), SB job trait (20%), gear (20%), Auspice (10%). This new job ability further lowers it and provides extra SB/accuracy which eliminates the need of wearing SB gear and opens up more gear selection to enhance damage output. So get your MNK to pile up Attack gear/food, give them Dia3/minuet/chaos, it's possible that they may turn into the most effective DD in term of damage:TP ratio. I am not claiming it will definitely work but it can be an interesting way of making MNK more desirable in HNM fight.
