As far as I know the developers denied console versions on twitter, but they may end up developing a spin of like Revolutions.

All Civs had Mac OS versions in the past, its one of the best selling games on the platform so fifth one will most definitely have an OS X version as well.

It's turn-based, so there's nothing to stress the CPU here other than duration of AI turns. Civ 3/4 also scaled gracefully with the graphical hardware, so I assume the same of Civ 5. Not like you really need it to run smooth anyhow given the kind of gameplay it offers.

Anyhow, I never gave the series a proper go. The most I played was Alpha Centauri and that's about it. Kinda kicking myself though for not having grabbed Civ4:Complete off Steam during the xmas sales.

The duration of AI turns is exactly what my issue is. Once you reach about mid-game it's 30-120 seconds to wait between a turn. And when I can potentially have nothing to do for my turn it is rather boring to hit enter and wait 2min to hit enter and wait another 2min.

    Lol...AI turn durations...

Back in Amiga era when we were playing turn based stuff with multiple floppy disks the AI turns were taking ssssoooooo long that we were playing monopoly/studying/drinking in between. Good times -_-

Heck, I remember a 5 floppy SF game where you had to swap disks between every battle. "Don't pick Ken or we have to swap twice "

    I highly recommend 4, it's a phenomenal game.

Buying this as soon as it comes out. Been playing since 2 and I still play 4 all the time. Hard to find a game that can just keep you locked on your computer the way this series does.

It looks like Catan... but will it still have Leonard Nimoy narrating?

I did not like Civ IV, but Civ II and III were the shit! I'm digging the hexagons of course.

    Important question.

I'll definitely be buying this barring some unforeseen design screw-up. Really excited about siege and ranged units finally actually being able to fire from range.

What did you not like about IV? I did play both III and IV, I think I liked both well.

I did not find IV aesthetically pleasing... it's of course personal taste, but I thought the style looked a bit cartoony, especially the portraits (they were way overdone). The screens that I'm seeing for V look a lot better, less juvenile.

If you installed Blue Marble, Civ 4 looked great.

I honestly find CIV games boring, I have tried to get into them a few times, but no dice. Maybe Civ V will do the trick.

    I'm happy. ^^

Hex-based maps makes everything look a lot more awesome!
    Also, this looks like fun:

I'd just like to say here and now that Sid Meier was the reason my degree was a class lower than the first I was aiming for. My then-boyfriend gave me a nicely pirated copy of Civ 1 when I got my first PC - and that was me gone completely, despite the wonky AI, the fondness for jamming you within cities despite being at peace with them... I was utterly lost to the cause.

Civ 2 remains my favourite game of all time - it gets slow as the enemy civs get larger and has to calculate turns but it's just brilliant, 3 I wasn't that struck on, but 4 still has the ability to swallow a good 5 hours of your life in one "just put the PC on for a quick game" (I love the music in 4 - it's nicely done without being obtrusive or too short a loop which grates after a while)... hell, even the Revolutions spinoff does what it does in being a Civ-lite phenomenally well.

I'm like, disgustingly excited about this one. If they keep Leonard Nimoy and bring back the original style wonder movies (didn't like the newer ones - I want the original Great Library music back), don't muck up the tech tree too much so everyone's preferred general paths still work - I'll be an incredibly happy girl. Heck, I even got the fella into Civ 4 (which has pretty much perma residence in one of my PC disc drives) to the level he's sat at work discussing strategies with the other guys.

Would love a sequel to Alpha Centuari too... the other one I played the shit out of in the past was Colonization. Yep, Sid Meier was definitely responsible for my degree not being as awesome as it shoulda been.

Landscape looks much more realistic. Also, they've finally got rid of the cartoony look which is a huge bonus.

This looks incredible so far and just like very other civ game did it'll definitely suck me in for...years.

Little bit more coming out about this now. Still think it'll have a long way to go to top CivII though.

What makes Civ 2 better than 3 or, especially, 4?

Civlilzation 2 was terrible, it made me fail classes like nothing else did.
