There has been about 46 aftershocks total so far around Chile area, all of them are around 35 Kilometers below the surface, and are between 5.2 and 6.9 magintudes.

    Updates here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...us2010tfc3.php

Salta, Argentina just got hit with it's own earthquake too, so expect aftershocks there. Epicenter 6.3 magnitude, 38.2 kilometers below the surface.

I love how these starving kids manage to find the time to write to you 'personally'... in perfect english... while they scavenge for food in the landfills and die of diptheria etc. I'd find the whole sponsorship scam a little more believable if you recieved a note once a month thats says 'Send food motherf*cker!' on a scrap of wet cardboard.

But to remain on topic. Earthquakes are bad mmkay?

Yes, yes, get this over with and begin debating religion or 2012(even if it only starts as a joke) - all of you are incapable of being stupid silently.

Money builds sturdy structures.
Chile is like California so they know to prepare for earthquakes and they are not dead poor like the Haitians. Still haven't been able to find shit on the extent of the damage though.

No no, the other side of Spain, near Kazakhstan I think.

Btw, yeah, assuming this functions the way I expect it did, there will be tsunami's for sure.

"assuming there will be tsunamis for sure, there will be tsunamis for sure"

Well, I know there are numerous types of earthquakes, and a significant aspect of the scale of the 2004 tsunami was how close it was to the surface, and the specific type of megathrust* quake it was.

The 2004 one had a portion of crust dragged downwards that sprung back, literally a few meters high as I recall, across miles of trench.

If this one was a slip-fault type, I'm not sure if it would generate as severe a tsunami, as that one is more like pressing your hands together then sliding them past each other.
