    modem troubles motroloa SBG900

Was trying to open friends NAT on his modem yesterday but couldn't set the ip address to static. So i tried to enable the DMZ for it and that didn't work either. So i gave up and everything was working fine. Now after i left its messed up and only connects to the network with limited access not the internet(the computer at this point.) the IPv4 has changed and is now listed as autoconfiguration ipv4 ***.***.***.* (preferred) which is totally different from what it was. He cant even connect to the modem log in page. Any ideas?

Uhh, if he can't login then presumably it isn't giving him an IP. Does this double as a router? He can try using the Windows command prompt commands to see if it will lease a valid IP address to allow him to access the modem:

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

Assuming it acts as a router and modem in one, when using ipconfig /all he should be able to see the Gateway's IP address which is what he'll need to use to access the modem in the case that it has changed and simply isn't responding to whatever method he was using before.

If this doesn't work and he simply cannot access it on any connected computer, then he'll probably need to reset the modem and start from scratch. Usually isn't a big deal if setting up the ISP's login isn't a big deal. From there he can set a static IP using DHCP tied to his MAC address. Keep in mind that devices like routers also need network IPs so problems can arise if you're trying to statically assign the same IP, or using too small a pool of IPs available in DHCP and running short.

i've manually reset the router (via the small pin hole button on the back) 2-3 times as well as unplugging for 10 sec then replugging, neither worked. if i can get a ip leased and access the modem page would their be a factor reset page to make it work again?

Generally the factory reset function and the physical reset button reach the same end. Are/were there any login credentials that the modem needed beforehand to reach the ISP and connect to the internet? Possibly something else resulting in that same issue? That's my best guess if hard resets aren't changing the situation whatsoever.
