hmmm... purple belt 4% haste, brown belt 8% haste, black belt 12% haste...next would be... red belt 16% haste?

Once you get black though don't you get red degrees or some shit though?
Damned if you do, damned if you don't is what I thought of while I read this thread.
Personally I'm pumped. I also stupidly got excited that I can solo to 99 off puddings then realized the exp will suck after like 3 levels lol.
red is higher than black, though there are very few and so not commonly known. And it depends on which martial arts you are referring to.
WoW is only as popular as it is because it had a strong brand name (Warcraft) and bothered to market itself extensively as an pay-to-play MMORPG that everyone, especially kids using their parents credit cards, would want to play. Plus Blizzard has strong homeground presence in the US. They know that market a lot better.
It had nothing to do with how the game fares as an MMORPG because statistically speaking, a majority of at least 50% of their players didn't know what makes an MMORPG, let alone a good one before touching it.
...
on the theoretical exp chart thing..
i think it might be pretty neat if the final lv 99 stopped at exactly 100,000 exp.
just saying.
Depends which, in the style I studied, Goju-Ryu(founded by Miyagi in Okinawa, Japan), the top rank was after 9 degrees of black belt, and the 10th honor was a red belt for masters rank. It would fit as the FFXI belt system corresponds to ours after green belt, as it went White->Yellow->Green->Purple->Brown->Black->Red.
EDIT:
This is correct.
Far as equipment upgrades go, I'm kind of worried they'll restrict it in a manner similar to Evoliths at the moment. Some nice potential to make useful hybrid weapons if the system is robust enough, and hopefully certain upgrades will cap so doing anything other than Joyeuse with +80 damage would be stupid and some such.
This whole thing makes me really excited to play again, as I had taken a bit of a break these last few months. However, almost everyone I knew has quit and with FF14 on the horizon, I don't know what to do.
actually only in Taekwondo.. black is the highest, but its also split into 9 dans (ranks).
as for Karate, there are levels after Black. Black is usually also split up into different dans there. But after black i think some do red, and others even go back to white. It really depends on which school you're in.
I'm going to be completly in the dark on this post and not read anything that anyone else has said.
Raising the level cap will break the game, unless they make DRASTIC changes to the rest of the system. Such as, /rdm. Vert, refresh, haste? Biggest example right there. maining rdm will be almost completly pointless. blm/rdm can do it, along with whm/rdm or sch/rdm. smn/rdm will have a hayday with the new avatars.
Anyone remember when they updated sam? I've seen a 5 ws combo take out Nid. Done in under 30sec. You think that won't happen again? Sure, they'll fix bugs, sure they'll catch a lot of stuff. But not everything, and in the meantime we have to deal with it. EXP camps will be OVERRUN. SMN burn groups will go haywire lol.
Raising the level cap to try and get players back from WoW and other such games is a retarded move by SE imo. Not to mention all 24 levels should need new gear, possibly making existing gear obsolete... I won't even get into that.
Regardless of what else changes along with the update, I don't like it. Raising the lv cap = stupid. It's changing the entire schematics of the game and how people play it.
Belt color depends on the Martial Art the Association and the Grandmaster presiding over the chain of schools.
Example Tae Kwon Do the association I was in it went:
White -> Yellow -> Green -> Purple -> Red -> Red -> Brown -> Brown -> Brown -> Black
But when I did Judo it was:
White -> Yellow -> Orange -> Green -> Blue -> Brown -> Black
and I know there are some Martial arts that have Red as the highest rank.
Looking at the calender and seeing 3 level increases, I'd wager that it's going to be 8 levels per cap.
76-83, 84-91, 92-99
I'm still working through the whole thread so bear with me.
Do we even know what martial art style MNKs use aside from "punch shit until stuff dies?"
