If the future updates are anything like that last one that added a TON of NMs + couple HNM then the game will be fine.
Gotta love the bitching about SE being too pussy to do something drastic every update and then when they finally grow balls and decide to up the level cap and possibly overturn the status quo it's NO NO MAKE IT STOP.
It's all about 96 drk's with octave clubs now.
I put 3 cents on Absolute Sin, Virtue's lvl 99 evil twin.
Im so baffled to see people ranting over the raise in cap, i quit (Sold my account...) because i had run out of goals to achieve.
Imo this will breathe new life into the game and give people a whole new incentive to play. My fav post was the guy who moaned for limbus n dynamis to be instanced.... yeah thats progression....
Im not ashamed now to admit i made a huge mistake in selling my account, im kicking myself as i will never get to experience this awesome new content.. Q.Q
Entirely dependent on the discipline and (I believe) the school itself.
When I took Taijutsu it was:
White --> Yellow --> Orange --> Green --> Purple --> Brown --> Red --> Black.
There were also split-color belts in between, as well as multiple red/black split tiers. Then of course several tiers of black.
But that's what has distinguished FFXI from WoW. The way WoW content works is that you go through the latest instance progression then grind it, then wait for a new progression to be released. Once it comes out all a new line of gear comes out which replaces old gear. Shelf life for gear in WoW lasts only as long as the version update schedule. It works in WoW cause it's always been that way.
FFXI was always different. Content doesn't go obsolete in FFXI. Sure *most* of us don't do Sky anymore (and how many years did it take to even reach that point?). But some people do. Why? Cause crap like Byakko's Haidate and Crimson Legs are still top tier. FF has always been full of sidegrades. Gear going completely out dated has happened very sparingly, and never at the level where an entire bunch of content (like "Sky" or "Sea" or "Kings") just became obsolete.
Imagine you make everything right now completely obsolete. Besides getting to laugh at the top levels of the FFXI totem pole getting reset by the all-equalizing hand of a new level cap, where do we go from here? I think we inevitably end up back where we were with a new elite class (albeit probably with a lot of rage quits). Is Square actually going to release content as fast as WoW? How are they going to make PvP dynamic and fluent enough with FFXI's engine where it can hold a candle to WoW?
What about getting groups for the new battle-expansion NMs... are they going to make large amounts of new content doable without groups? If not, how do get back the population necessary to have a truly vibrant and thriving end game scene where there are enough groups for the average player to be able to join a guild capable of actually doing difficult things?
In the end FFXI is still outdated graphically and as an engine. I doubt a facelift with new shinys and monsters will give FFXI enough to compete with the pull of new games and/or WoW. WoW is much faster paced and suits the casual taste because its a fundamentally different engine.
I doubt it. World Spawn HNMs vs. Instances are merely representative of the differences between WoW and FFXI end game; that battle underlies a much greater difference in the approach and style of Square and Blizzard's game administration and development. Square probably isn't prepared to have adopt the necessary radical paradigm shifts in administration and development of the game to truly follow WoW.
FFXI shouldn't be WoW, can never be WoW, and it shouldn't try to be WoW. Giving it a WoW facelift will accomplish very little at this point but throw FFXI's twilight years into a XIV alpha test on how to pretend to be WoW.
I think you're missing the point of what I said.
Aside from how "good" of a MMORPG a game is, it's simple marketing basics in terms of how a company chooses to go about making money.
Blizzard: Market orientation. It chooses to actively take player feedback and update the game constantly, giving new content that players want, resulting in a high retention rate of subscriptions. Also involves environmental scanning to determine what customers in various target groups want in a game, to be able to market the game as best as possible. Even if you're like me and personally don't like the game, you can't deny that Blizzard has a much higher focus on customer value and marketing than SE in this respect.
SE: Sales and production orientations. Works on the philosophy that aggressive sales tactics and working along what's most efficient and least costly for them in terms of resources will yield the profits. Basically working on the idea of "if we build it they will come" and trying to produce an easy cash cow rather than produce a product that in some senses can sell itself. This philosophy works in some markets, but in the MMORPG market it causes SE to not be able to adequately compete with Blizzard.
One thing to be said for sure about JOB99/SJ49 is that the new roles one can play will open up tremendously. Compared to the 75 cap world, the degree to which a subjob will change your main's role will be increased.
this is something to look forward to. even if you can only take 1 job to lvl 99 you will probably enjoy far more options for gameplay provided that you have appropriate subjobs prepared.
those of us who have to surrender our status of 5-10+ jobs maxed out ... will just have to suck it up and grind for the next few years ><
It will be interesting to say the least. It has made me rethink what I was going to do in the game, instead of taking up a new job, I'll grind out some subs I guess. Wheeee.
Actually now that I think of it all my subs are set lol. Guess I'll just have to work on dancer. Having NIN 75 takes care of WAR, THF , and RNG subs. And then I'll ask myself do I really care about leveling dancer because all it is a campaign sub.
