The first time everyone was still leveling. Some will move faster than others, we all won't be at the same camp at the same time.

You sound like a WoW player. FFXI is not WoW. I played a ton of both, but what I get from reading this is that nothing will become obsolete. Furthermore, I think if they do obsolete lvl 75 gear, a lot of players will quit. It sounds like they plan to use this new augment quest system to basically take lvl 75 gear and upgrade it (including relics...), so I bet that people are still doing Dynamis, people are still doing HNM, people are still doing Ein, people are still doing Limbus, etc.

Furthermore, maybe I'm alone in this boat, but I have tons of not-75 gear currently. Do you think every situational piece for every job is just going to have it's shit replaced? Well, it won't. Yea, exp camps will be more crowded than they are now, but no, everyone is not going to drop everything they have to go exp. Furthermore, people will need to level subjobs, people will be willing to level sync, people will be willing to go to other camps (Mamool and trolls are worse than birds....but any camp to yourself is better than fighting over a camp).

There is two things players have to understand to get through most fight, and it's: enemy's TP gain, basic enmity. For the rest, it's just a matter of knowing the monster's TP moves (stunable, blinkable, small aoe, large aoe, los), but FFXI lack diversity and it doesnt take long before you have seen them all. Mass charm and ultima countdown are one of the few rare exceptions, but nearly every fight are played out the same (or follow one of 3 or 4 archetype).

Rewarding and non rewarding are the words you're looking for, not "easy" and "hard". Leveling in WoW is much much easier, but endgame encounter are by no mean less challenging than FFXI's endgame (in fact, I'm willing to say they are harder, but that's another topic).

Where FFXI might look more difficult, it's usually an illusion because
    1) it's hard to get enough people with the right jobs
    2) you're limited to 1 attempt per day/weeks (where other game would let you try as often as you want)
    3) the encounter never get outdated (3-6 months later, your gears will be much better in WoW, making everything older a joke).

You could argue that WoW fight are easier because they are shorter (5-9 minutes) or that you can beat everything with the same setup (because blizzard don't want to exclude certain classes from the game), but really, bad players will do as bad in both game, and good players will have no issue no matter what they are facing.

tldr: wow and FFXI can't be beaten with buton mashing, but shit, I'm going to punch anyone who say they are remotely difficult to play.
Also, this. FFXI fights are much simpler and easier than WoW fights, they also require significantly less attention, but FFXI has more longevity because of lower drop rates, and less item drops from a given area. But encounters in wow are far more diverse, and with the hardmodes, far more "difficult" than ffxi.
Also, yea, no game is hard to "beat", but it is very "hard" to play perfectly, which I feel are 2 very distinct things.

I think the bigger issue is that people will intentionally fight for camps. There's always that one group that comes in and thinks they're strong enough to push out the incumbent group. Meanwhile, their arrogance forces both parties to receive less XP than they could have by finding another damn location.

Actually I was just replying to the person who said that "dead game is congested", that person was replying to the person who said camps will be congested; then someone else replied saying that the game wasn't congested before with 2000-3000; and finally I replied saying that with the new level cap increase, people will level at the same time likely(because leveling will possibly allowing you to solo Dynamis, HNMs, all that end game activities).

Of course I said "unless they level cap it"(AKA, Dynamis, Limbus, <insert current end game stuff here>). Otherwise it'd be probably be best to level up a few(maybe to 80), then make Dynamis and other stuff a lot easier to do or require a lot less people.

The point of all that is that with the new level cap being raised, everyone will probably end up leveling at the same time(it will be the new content of the year), so new leveling areas may possibly be congested.

So I don't know where you got that "I'm a WoW player" from.

This is why I plan to not go to birds at all, let the idiots fight over it, both end up at 15k/hr constantly losing chain, and I'll "settle" for ~28-30 at some random other camp. Fuck, I'll go fight Lamia if I need to, no mob type is -that- hard.

    Sorry, I don't get it

idk who posted it, but a bad player won't be bad at both games. WoW has a learning curve, ffxi does not.

you can be good at ffxi and be a bad player, sorry for everyone who thinks this game is teh shiznitz hardz

Here is a conspiracy theory. Am I the only one who think FFXI is just one big social experiment for SE? Right now, I feel like they are testing their userbase to see how players react to optional content.

With the first 3 mini-expansion, they wanted to see how much they could charge the players for a single items. With these 3 expansions, they are testing end game player's reactions to dramatic change.

With FFXIV being so close from release it will need to be perfect, and there is no better place to test different idea than another dying mmo.

It IS old news. Like years old. Time to move on. Limbus is old. Dynamis is old. Who the fuck cares about it anymore? Make new events. Do new shit. Come on.

Now if this update is done poorly and the new content sucks and is not implemented well then that is completely different and I take it all back. But who knows this could be exactly what the game needs. Maybe they will improve the grind while they are at it.
This is the scary part. The whole thing sound great in theory, but they are doing it over 2 years, and knowing them, it will take them 2 more years to tune it properly. It could very well end up being worse than what we have.

About content being outdated, I think they are going to keep many "top tier" item using their armor upgrade system. I don't think they want old content to be abandonned completely.

The difficulty in mmo is to have everyone works as a team. In FFXI, you need one or two leaders, and everyone else follow while doing their little things.

I wish there was more fight like ultima, Long armed chariot or bahamut in the game. They werent particularly hard, but they test your skill a lot more than many other fight.

Because the shit you are saying is basically how WoW went about it...but still, you're assuming all sorts of shit that we have no proof of. Why do people think 75>80 will have the same progression as 70>75? Do you think we're going to hit 80, and every stat will just be falling off the gear? 10% haste legs, 10% turban, and 5% for Dawn Gloves, cap haste with 3 pieces of gear? No, that shit isn't going to happen. There does not need to be a similar stat increase or anything. I'm not even going to list stuff, but theres more ways to do this than you can count on your fingers so making assumptions like that is dumb. There is precedent for many ways for what's been done in other MMOs in the past, etc.

Read my posts and chain of replies again. When did I ever talk about stats? I never said anything about items or stats.

I said in response to Colibris(as an example of overcamped but not congested leveling), that the new leveling areas may end up being congested because, 75s did other stuff besides leveling too like Dynamis and stuff which is why Colibri are too "congested".

However with the new level cap being raised, people are more likely going to reschedule their plans to level up instead of doing Dynamis or whatever.

Also I'm not even "assuming" <x is going to happen>. I was replying and just giving an argument for why <x person's point isn't exactly invalid because players may end up leveling at the same time>.
