They weren't the best but these weren't "average" players. They were competent enough to manage 17k merit parties. The Paladins had Homam, most Black Mages had HQ staves + Weskit + Zmitts (this was after the ISNMs dropped Talons but before Salvage), the DD's had Haidates and Haubys and accuracy rings and separate WS sets

Were they under-merited? Who knows; I'd wager yes, a lot probably sunk all their merits into stabbing stuff better vs. ele skill or potency. But the gear was at least decent for the time (~2007)

It just didn't go down fast. No coordination between the SC and BLMs, lots of resists, tank part constantly running out of MP and needing a sleep. There was no flail, everyone was on the feet. But it was just slow. I can't tell you how it happened, but it did.

Even though these days I think 15 minute Fafnirs are too long, I definitely can recall back then checking every other minute to time our pace and make sure we finished before rage.

And sadly enough we had already killed a KB when we pulled this off. For a completely new group with no one having fought it, Fafnir can be a challenge even if no one is retarded-level bad. You have to be a lot more than simply non-vegetative to handle Fafnir.

I agree it's going to be nice to revisit some of the old content as overpowered lv99, especially the thing I wasnt able to do because no one was interested in (useless znm with shitty drop and stuff like this)

I think we were talking about MMO.

But fuck the last dungeon. The first half was fine, then you get to a long hall with monster that knock you back and laser..or something...I could never get past that part.

idk who posted it, but a bad player won't be bad at both games. WoW has a learning curve, ffxi does not.

you can be good at ffxi and be a bad player, sorry for everyone who thinks this game is teh shiznitz hardz
It's the other way around, but same result.

WoW goes from face rolling to the stressful raid environment. It's not a curve, it's a freaking wall (on your first char at least).
In FFXI, you learn your shit while you xp, and it won't change much during endgame.

Even if we assume Dynamis won't be scaled. Even if we assume our current gear will go to shit. The benefit of doing Dynamis in a group as opposed to solo/duo is splitting 500k over X people that don't want what you want.

However with the new level cap being raised, people are more likely going to reschedule their plans to level up instead of doing Dynamis or whatever.
Well, if you don't gain any stats going to 80, what is going to make Dynamis so much easier at 80? Maybe having convert on your white mages? Awesome, that's a deal-breaker for me.
People are still going to do Dynamis if relics are worth it. The profit from doing Dynamis is huge. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet that -most- the useful items now will remain useful. I doubt red mages suddenly get a 2nd refresh hat, or 20 enhancing gloves or a 15 fastcast body. I doubt white mages will get a double potency regen body, or 15 enhancing boots, etc. Dynamis will still be worth doing, and I think you're delusional if you say otherwise, but that's just my opinion. I could go into every other area of the game, but really, a: hitting 80 won't suddenly make Dynamis a huge joke (well, it already is a huge joke, so it won't change that much), and b: the gear from Dynamis will still be desired - relic and currency (or as much relic as is desired now...I have all of 1 sam piece).

I'm not saying people won't flock to exp camps, but I think after 2-3 days, people will realize that 80 won't be what you are trying to make it out to be.

so how is it the other way around? the fact that you can learn everything you need to know about ffxi by being in exp parties on the job is not a learning curve. plus the fact that jobs are so simple for the most part. ok, wows curve is steep. but it's not the other way around

edit: also where the fuck is this "you get no new stats at 80" thing coming from?

That's what I meant(flock to exp camps). I never said people will stop doing Dynamis(I only mentioned Dynamis, Limbus, etc as examples of end game stuff people could be doing other than exping). I just said they'll just do the crazy new thing that's coming out(reaching level 80) first, AKA reschedule their plans.

Also I did mention that they may not make going to higher levels obsolete everything(AKA, when I said "unless of course they level cap stuff like Dynamis").

Also I edited it in my previous post but I mentioning again since it's posts above here right now, I didn't assume anything is going to happen(stuff being obsolete) of course which is why I said "unless of course they level cap Dynamis" or something).

All in all, my post was just a reply to say "well that person's point isn't invalid, the new exp camps may be congested".

All this bitching about level cap and congestions etc... to me it just sounds like the game will be exciting for the first time in years. For pretty much everyone this has become like a job, and we all know excitement at work fuckin sucks - but this isn't supposed to be a job.

I can see a lot of 'exping >> rushing to hnms, quests, new hnms, etc >> back to looking for new exp camps' balancing the congestion out. It's all gonna work out, how much bitching we see on these boards is all dependent on how lazy people eventually get in all the camp changes.

Hence why I said "other MMOs in the past" and not WoW. If you read my first post, I said the guy who I was responding to was taking a WoW outlook - which is everything becomes obsolete. I'm saying FFXI won't do this, and furthermore, there were other games (such as AnarchyOnline) where later expansion level progression added it's own basically separate levels. AO had 200 levels before Shadowlands, then SL add 20 other levels, which made your character more powerful, but the levels didn't give you the stat points of other levels basically. Imagine FFXI basically counting you as a lvl 75 character for all pdif, accuracy, etc calculations as long as you were >=75, all the additional levels did was give you maybe +1 to all stats at 79, 89, and 99, extra JAs/spells/SJstuff, and perhaps higher level gear/questaugments. There is precedent to things like this, and it isn't a huge leap to think SE may take some sort of similar approach - because it maintains some amount of game balance. Will the current game become easier? Of course, but it doesn't have to be by leaps and bounds like it is in a WoW expansion.

As for Dynamis, I'm sure it will be pretty easy at 99, but you aren't going to walk in and solo Shadow Lord. You aren't going to walk in and full-clear Bastok solo. The "optimal" number of players will drop, but it won't go to 1. Hey, it'll be kinda like Limbus...which shells do as a whole, and split into different groups. If anything, I'd say people should be more worried with Dynamis congestion than exp camp congestion, as I don't see any way for Dynamis to not remain insanely profitable.

Other than mobs taking significantly more damage and players recieving significantly less damage? AF3?

Wont argue that gear will probably be usefull still (which is great but frustrating as I cant imagine having to now add AF3 to my gearswaps...), but we will see. We will probably see just lower man Dynamis for relics/situational pieces, and hopefully instanced dynamis due to this change.

Should read all my posts, it's entirely possible that level correction will cap your level at 75 for all calculations (perhaps even just for "Impossible to Gauge" targets, seeing as there is already coding in there that ignores what level you are when you check it). It's way too early for anyone to assume anything at this point (I am not assuming what I am saying, just pointing out other ways it could be done). But yes, I'm leaning towards them not making the entire game obsolete.

And again, I still think every piece that's useful now will remain useful, though I definitely could be wrong. Also, I use 1 piece of AF1, 1 piece of AF2 on Samurai. I'm expecting to use 1 piece of AF3 (inc meditate shoes).

No information = Bitching upon assumptions = Pointless. Dynamis can just as easily become farming grounds as it could become conflictual grounds with the new pack (i.e. AF3 Dynamis and current dynamis share the same timers).

Honestly, I can't see the offensive part of dynamis changing much. Take out the attack buff and rely on lvcorrect. Haste keeps it's value. Gain one spot from your lack of COR, while doing about the same damage. RDM gains level correction for defense, making it more feasible to solo hold even the nastier pulls if they have PDT and phalanx. Cut out the BLM. This would make perfect setup for cities now:
RDM BRD DD DD THF DNC
    instead of
    BLM THF
RDM BRD COR DD DD DNC

not that huge a difference tbh, unless some new ability drastically alters things

inb4 someone talks about /rdm convert, rdm will still be superior crowd control due to survivability

Primary change is that DD will die significantly slower when tanking dynamis mobs. This doesn't effect a good group much, but it does allow people who couldn't 8man successfully using aforementioned strategy due to poor reaction time/afk players/etc to manage the 6man setup. Of course, the groups that can already manage a smooth 8man can cut down to 6 and still stay smooth.

    Opportunity cost.

If the 1.78 million exp per job to get to 99 is worth it the time you give up to get to cap, by all means (Assuming that level chart is relatively correct; it is hard to say yet but +2k per level doesn't seem that unlikely). That is the equivalent of 2 75 jobs (more than).

So every level 99 is the equivalent of 3 old level 75s.

    leveling 2 more 75's per 75 job? I'll pass.

5~10~34 more levels worth of combat and magic skill levels will be everything to most people. EXP camps will be packed for a long time considering all the idiots that can't think past their nose and just rush to the 2 merit camps and 1-2 level-sync camps that they have even heard of.

Best thing they ever done in this game and im returning because of it if done correctly like i think they will.

Game is getting dead so I predict this will happen and make this game super epic again.

    1. New Job traits, job abilties and subjob JA. Sure PUP gets A in h2h skill but do they get the 4 martial arts traits that monk will gain by level 99. Will they get monks chi blast II or mnks weaponskill that is a 16 fold attack when they reach 400 h2h skill?? (No such WS, just an example). Maybe mnk gets a focus II to take over when focus 1 timer is down etc. RDM gets tier 4 spells and haste 2, blm gets meteor and tier 5 spells shown in the dats and NIN gets utsemsemi:SAN. Sure /rdm sub can convert now but do they get fast cast VIII which will give rdm a chainspell speed utsusemi:Ni from their /nin sub. The subjobs won't take over the main jobs role like you ppl think it would. Giving rdm sub refresh and convert doesn't mean that rdm main job won't get refresh II and maybe even a refresh III. (thats alot of MP you would need to rest if you were level 99 and they only had access to refresh 1)

2.Upgrading relics to relic+1 is the most epic shit i seen so far. Nomore gimp ragnorok, they will make the weapons good to todays battle standards in ff11.

The most amazing thing yet.... The thing that made me quit was my server was WAY TOO SMALL to do PW and AV anymore and PW only drops like 4 items and needs 40+ ppl to defeat him. Now he drops 4 items and only needs an alliance to defeat.... now the game is being more fair on effort vs reward.

    3. The drop rates are better when soloing NMs with /thf TH2 like your peacock charms or in this case, ancient torques lol.

    4. EVERYONE will finally be able to get a Ninsurta Sash by using 12 level 99s.. even noob players at lvl 99 can kill AV with some friends.

    5. DYNAMIS will no LONGER be 4 hours long and will less then an hour I would predict. Dynamis xarcarbard can now be full cleared PLUS dynamis lord dying 100% of the time. You can probably rack up over 1000 dynamis coins per xarcabard if full clearing every single time. Relics will be easier and currency might drop. I think SE will say f*** it to being strict about their relics weapons in a dying game and finally make dynamis instanced so that ppl don't go in soloing dynamis, otherwise ppl would never be able to enter dynamis. .

    6. Things will finally be able to be done with your 6 real life friends and you won't need a massive amount of players to kill stuff and that drops the stress level of the game off big time.

    7. SE already said the giaint blob and crab (new HNMs) will be very difficult battles. And imo, I think they are most likely going to still have HNMs in the game that are difficult to an allaince of lvl 99's.

    8. Pops like tiamat and KB will now decrease I think will happen in order to accomdate the number of lowmans. I think tiamat will be 24 pop now and NQ behemoth might be 12 hr pop and KB maybe every 2-3 days pop. They might lower the rage timer to 20 mins just like they did for cassie, roc and simi.

    9. The new add-ons are actually EXPANSIONS and not ADD-ONs.
They will feature NEW ZONES (Confirmed) while the add-ons had no new zones, they were just new quests same zones. They will be like dynamis battlefields but will not be 4 hours long (also confirmed) and they drop AF3 armor (confirmed, there is screenshots of pld and blm AF3 on playonline page). AF3 will enhance the job abilites of the JA's that come out from 76-99 just like AF and AF2 enhanced job abilties of jobs. (so macro peices basically but some will be good idle peices i'm sure... like the rdm af2 hat was).

    10. WOTG will feature badass shadow lord gear and a badass greatsword and the end of it will feature some end ring or bonus reward. The medal of atlana might feature some level 75+ gear too maybe.

    11. The castle Z (S) will probably have higher lvl mobs to exp in from lets say 80-85 being that that place is supposed to be badass and most ppl can all gain exp from campaign if zones are over crowded.

    12. everyone will have access to pw and av gear rejoice... they will become the new "kirin's osode".

    13. All the force pops with over camped but I rpredict that they will make EVERY FORCE pop in the game 3 min timer. This has been talked about now for currect 15 min timers to be decreased to 3 mins.

    14. Very excited for new JA's and seeing what they have to offer to make things new. They also confirmed new weaponskills already. (some from beseiged and campaign battle WS's that the NPCs use, we can use them too).

    15. duoable attestation/fragments and mythic weapons trophies. Expect the relic+1 quests to be hard as f*** though just like SE said they would though.

Everything can be accesible without an alliance anymore since the game is smaller in population anyway this is amasing news and you can lowman stuff with your real life friends if they still play which is about 6 ppl... Less drama with small numbers I love the idea. Nomore needing 40+ ppl to bribe into doing dynamis with u anymore.

Even though AV gear will be very farmable, I can still expect items to be 4mil+ and thats some good farming gil again for awhile.

this is amasing news... lowman with low population is the biggest game saver thus far. I will return for sure.

Assuming the curve remains the same, and doesn't regress to 1 per level or 1 per 5 levels, or just none at all without lvl99 merits. Which again, is a pretty baseless assumption...
