with everyone talking about /nin and innin, i think people have forgotten that somebody needs have hate, and if you're a decked BB mnk or ridill war, it's most likely going to be you.

with SAMs spinning for overwhelm and everyone else spinning for innin, it's just going to be a big circle fest.

kinda like when i was lv2 and thought that circling behind a mob while fighting it made it miss more.

There are 2 weapon skill upgrade areas planned. One for relic/mythic / "third" -upgraded weapons and a second one for all other weapons.

W/e the reason for that, it suggests relics/mythics will get different adjustments than regular weapons.

It's unlikely, at least IMO, that SE would intentionally enable AH weapons to be upgraded to be better than upgraded relics, although I'm sure some people would like that.

the trial of magians was said to be much more difficult when u trade a fully upgraded relic to the npc or w/e. so with the mindnumbing quest should HOPEFULLY bring a mindnumbing reward. (pray se doesnt drop the ball yet again anyone?)

Exactly. That is why one of the preconditions for melee tanking is that melee is a viable source of damage. If this precondition is not met, then forget about it and change to a traditional tank. That said, if the precondition is met, melee damage should suffice in maintaining hate once capped.

PLD has a variety of CE/VE tools that many melees do not, as well as a lot less emnity lost via less damage taken (and yes, a melee DD tank in full PDT will still take a lot more damage than an Aegis pld with sentinel/etc). On squishy things without much AoE, DDmelee tanks are great! But on high end mobs with lots of AoE, I'd MUCH rather have a PLD, and that PLD typically allows the other melees to just push their limits instead of fighting to stay alive.
I wouldn't go as far as to generalize it to high end mobs with AoE. There are some mobs that fit this criteria where melee tanking is superior. As mentioned earlier, everything you're pointing out is in regards to two aspects of tanking: Hate and survivability. Provided that a melee can ascertain both, there is nothing that a PLD provides whereas melee provide damage.

The problem with most arguments asserting PLD over melee tanks is that they tend to argue on the basis of these two premise (PLD can survive in X situation; PLD can gain hate better in X event). Yet, the moment a melee can survive in X situation or can maintain hate in X event, this assertion crumbles. You may be tempted to rely on "Is this the norm?" arguments, but at that point, it's futile because you're trying to make an argument by setting standards for melee.

This all goes back to the "shit is situational" piece, but pld still has its place in any harder content and will only get more powerful/usefull as we approach 99.
This depends on where SE wants to take their game. What we know is that six man PTs will become the standard in this new dynamis. Leaving HNMs aside, one must wonder whether this event will reflect the current style of BRD COR RDM DD DD DD/DNC or bring us back to an older fashion of FFXI including Tank Healer Support Nuker DD DD.

I heart you pepe but I think the WHM will run out of charges (2 minute recovery time) even if they manually haste their own party one member at a time.

EDIT: 80WHM/40SCH definitely works for a zerg fight though.

80 WHM gets less charges and longer recast on those charges.

Well i was thinking about how much less motivated i am to even start a relic knowing that even after i gathered all the items... i still will need to go through a crap ton of quests to upgrade the thing to a usable standard for a level 99 character.

    screw that lol.

does it really matter. it's one charge for Accession with haste being a 3 minute spell. you recharge every 2 minutes (for whm/sch). so your at full charges when hastes is expiring?

Full ally implies 3 parties, 1 mage keeping haste up.

a boost to Chakra (maybe make it cure Slow)
I actually think it would be pretty cool if they added a job trait that enhanced it so it was more like the FFT Chakra.

I half expect the relic upgrade quest to be so tedious that if -anything- else comes close in quality, they just won't be worth the time investment to do. I'd like to think they'd throw players a bone after already having finished a ~125M investment, but this is Square.

There are waves of mobs in Einherjar that are far stronger than others of the same type. I don't know if I am explaining this well, but if you have done Einherjar for any amount of time you will know what I am talking about.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I think upgrades will be equal across all weapons. Though, this would hurt relics more I would think.

We have done it with 6 and 7. I actually prefer 7 because it gives more flexibility.

I'm just opening myself up to verbal abuse here but we do Einherjar twice a week and haven't lost a run since 2009, yet I'd wager that nobody in our shell has ever heard of this. I hadn't.

So is the entire wave HQ or just some of the mobs? I don't suppose this is linked to not killing the tiger?

Can you please provide a quote to substantiate this? I saw nothing that indicated there was any difference between relic and normal weapons.

    It's on the Vanafest site:

There are also plans to make it possible to enhance Relic and Mythic weapons through Trial of the Magians. While players can expect quest difficulty to far exceed similar quests released thus far, we are confident the rewards will make it more than worth the while!
