Eh, I guess that's an okay way to merit. Ideally, you want 2 bards pulling a corsair 2 melee and a rdm.

Yes, especially when it comes to pure damage. Not saying that SAM should be nerfed - lowering Sekkanoki's level and ungimping /SAM Meditate (why does SAM/WAR have to get full benefits from Berserk and /SAM meditate is gimped?) would immediatly make things a lot more balanced for 2-handers.
1-handers need more significant boosts however.
from french site:" dificulty level for those queste (relic/mythic) will be way harder than for normal weapons, but result will be worth it"Nous prévoyons également d'inclure le renforcement des "armes reliques " et des "armes mythiques " dans les "épreuves des Magiciens moogles". Le niveau de difficulté de ces quêtes sera bien plus élevé que pour les armes normales, mais le résultat sera à la hauteur du défi.
(inb4 french translator interpretation)
that can't be a french translation.. it doesn't have "We surrender" or any reference to white flags in it
Well, there have been several occurrences lately where the French site proved more accurate than the US one (which wasn't always the case!), so I suppose this information can be considered as reliable.
Just had this nuts idea... DRK/SCH might be able to use drainga2 on a bunch of weak mobs to get over 9000 HP!
Ppl will always bring a DRG and a THF. The benefit of angon/feint (TH) outweights the benefits of having 2 extra SAM or WAR. SAM and WAR are very strong melee jobs but other 2H DDs aren't that far behind if they are properly geared. DD performance is not the main reason why I would choose SAM over other 2H DD job for a non zerg melee setup, their ability to generate TP without feeding too much TP to the enemy makes them more appealing.
Every single non-SAM, non-WAR DD job in this game has something useful to offer except BST. A pimped out BST can't even hold a candle to an average 2H DD job. Next time when you feel like bashing SAM or WAR think about the poor BST and consider yourself lucky.
I'm going to do something similar to earlier except replace SAM with BST.
You are going to merit, who do you invite, BST or DRG?
You are doing Salvage, who do you invite, BST or THF?
You are going to Einherjar, what job you go on, BST or SMN?
You are going to solo some merits, what job do you go on? BST, BLM, or BLU?
These are just basic ideas. BST is not going to shine in any condition. I'm sure someone will post something stupid and obscure to thwart me now but whatever.
Since this is speculation thread, I'll just toss this out there. At the moment, the time required to give commands to a pet are worse on a BST dot than casting shadows. If they could make commands quicker, or give BST a mode they can turn on that makes their pet attack with them like a wyvern or other pet jobs that would help "a little".
One nice thing about Snarl was being able to sub /war. zerk, warcry, ws, snarl and you're good no need for shadows. Letting the pet act as shadows would be especially nice if we see some improvement to BST scythe skill, and possibly have BST/SAM rocking Hasso full time and snarling hate to pet.
The thing I see is SE is reluctant to go away from the spirit they intended for the job. They have been doing so much to adjust the pets because they want a large focus on the pets being used. BST has been pretty much buffed since day 1 other than the one nerf. It's possibly always been the weakest and worst job to use in a group and now it doesn't even have its solo star status anymore.
Noone I know of makes money selling jugs or foods or anything related to BST. I think they need to go ahead and make hq jugs available from npc sources. The funny thing is after they mention making jugs easier/cheaper to get, they mention an idea for making a new jug that is only obtainable by HQ2 or 3. So as usual they are contradicting themselves.
It really wouldn't take much to improve BST. SE has just moved slow as hell with it because they are so afraid of their pet jobs, the most lol'ed at jobs in the game in general, will become unbalanced.
P.S. Someone earlier mentioned BST having a niche. No, BST does not have a niche but nice try.
I can't believe it's 2010 and people are alluding to drg being on the same "tier" as thf for DD potential.
I definitely wasn't implying that. I was actually using the BST or DRG choice to focus on how much DRG has been improved on. I kind of hope that we can see the same level improvement in performance for BST in the next year. Also people lump DRG in with pet jobs all the time, even though its the one pet job with little actual control over the "pet". Also, since everyone keeps crying out how the game is balanced because of the awesome utility of certain classes catch them up to higher average DD jobs, I included THF and DRG b/c of feint and angon.
Sam > all. If you are playing another DD/melee thinking you can hold a candle, you're doing it wrong.
I was joking. Sheesh. Play what you want and enjoy the game people. That's what matters. It's your $12.95.
I can't tell which of your posts is sarcastic D:
It wasnt a matter of saying IS it doable. I know its doable, but that wasn't my question. My question was "you have the following jobs available for DD roles, they are all geared and merited equally very well, which one do you take".
Lets try another method, bear in mind if my shit seems off, I dont care much for cars, but I think the analogy would work:
1959 Cadillac
Lamborghini
Minivan
Which would you take to cruise around.
Which would you take to go shopping.
Which would you take to go downtown on a Sat night.
Which would you take to race people.
Which would you take if you were Batman.
Which would you take to drive your kids to school.
And no, Nyzul is not easily clearable with 3. It is LUCKILY clearable with 3, as per your own videos, but thats not for this thread.
