I'm not sure about this, but I suspect the NPC fellow can not cross to a next level on Promyvion XP bonus. I used to run the quest weekly, and I found my NPC sitting at the highest XP message but taking what seemed like an unusually long time to level up, only to have her ding first kill when summoned conventionally (on two separate occasions).
Or, might be coincidence, hard to say.
Also, not sure if the Shinai bonus works in Promyvion, since it's not summoned by the usual mechanism. No special text message upon starting if you have it equipped, so I'm guessing not.
I wonder what % of players use PS2 exclusively, without having a capable PC, PS3 or XBox 360 at their disposal.
I'd love a PS3 copy of FFXI (and extend the damn # of lines for macros), because this game makes my laptop get just a tad too hot.
If you've never played FFXI on 360, there are some pretty major issues with it IMO. I bought it when it was released, I don't know if they recent copy is upgraded or fixed at all, but the first version out had incredibly shitty frame rate issues. The slow down was really disappointing for a next gen console. I also personally experienced gradual loss of music and sound effects in larger events like dynamis until the game went silent 2 hours in lol.
The port was done really badly. If they released an updated copy for PS3 I'd buy it a heartbeat. Until then, PS2's been good to me.
You are absolutely correct. Anytime your NPC's XP caps out from a promy, you have to summon them with Signal Pearl and kill 1 mob. The cool part is that it can be ANY mob; even a simple Tunnel Worm will ding your NPC from 69 to 70 in this situation.
I am not sure about the Shinai but it really has no bearing on this method I described. As a lvl 75 you would tear through floor 1 (and/or strays) to get the 30 kills, regardless of whether or not your NPC had STR+4 DEX+4. Shinai is irrelevant.
During a promy quest, every mob you kill increases the XP bonus at the end of the mission by 40 XP. After 30 mobs, the bonus caps (at 1200 XP).
That 1200 gets added to the XP you earn by clicking ???s along the way.
You're joking.Maybe the mobs in the promyvion zones are actually level 100+ already, but appear weak because they are level capped?
I've gone to floor 3 on my measly 30WHM/15BLM solo, so it doesn't surprise me that a job with actual solo capabilities can reach floor 4.Originally Posted by Plow
This method of NPC leveling is about to go from something you and a few other people do to something that anyone can do on any job without any effort or attention, and in less time. I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that this method will soon become widely available.
Nope, if anything it's nice to have her on heal mode so I don't have to limit myself to 5 strays at a time when there's a ton already up. Although when she's dps, I toss a waltz after MR if she's not high enough to get full while I'm resting mana.
It's pretty simple, really. Gather strays > 2 grand slams. Heal up, mb/cocoon/samba.
Put your back to a pillar so you don't get knocked back as far, and right as you land your first swing, cast head butt. Then just spam bludgeon, try to anticipate seeds for head butt, and start using grand slam on cd when there's 3 strays up. (@2 on 3rd floor if you have dps npc)
Waltz as needed, with dps npc I save all tp for waltz, with healer I'll flat blade some seeds.
Pretty simple stuff, although the level cap will save time. Right now if you get too many fakes you risk having to exit on 3rd floor.
And on a completely separate and more 99 related note...
It occurred to me earlier that avatar perpetuation costs are going to increase. Sure hope we get some more -perp gear.
Also, we're going to have storms as sch sub, so yeah better grab a horn... fml. (I've been 4/5 since getting legs sometime in early 05)
going over what summoner is potentially losing and getting is insane.
everyone is talking of new tiers to buffs and spells for other mage jobs, but they fail to mention anything for summoners. to keep us relevant at all, we will need a massive overhaul to how summoning magic skill effects pacts, since because only skill over cap has any relevant use, we will not grow at all.
or we will need an entire tier of new, stronger buffs in addition to an entire tier of new physical and magic attacks.
We need some auto-refresh 2 action imo.
