I feel sorry for the poor kid who gets told "level bard or we're kicking you from our linkshell".
Being tied into one job can suck my dick. I like ffxi because I can play multiple roles on one character, if it loses that aspect then the game is pretty much wrecked for me.
That would be a game killer for me. I like being able to choose if I want to tank an event on Rdm or just go all out zerging on Drk or Sam. Having to choose one kills the only reason I stick with this game over other mmos: variety of playstyles with a persistent identity.
Once all the new 99 content is added, and Tiamat and Fafnir are like Simurgh and Serket, we'll only be able to do the new zones, new HNMs, and new events with level 99 characters.
And if you ever decide to bring a 75 even to Fafnir again, you'd better hope its your tank or else it'll throw off the whole party dynamic.
I just hope the new kings are worth camping every day for 3 hours for.
I'm not even sure right now. Before all this was announced, I was trying to make myself merit to stay interested in the game. Now I want to stay, but I feel like meriting right now is damn near pointless. I'm questioning whether I should even be doing Dynamis or Salvage anymore, but I don't want to make a hasty decision while we're still several months off.
I think my focus may shift to finishing missions, getting blm and drk to 75, and getting every sub to 50. Might as well get that extra level to start AF quests.
And while it's true you can augment level 75 gear in the Magian Moogle quests, it'd be better to just get the level 99 ridill and ebody replacements from the new kings and then augment those, instead.
This is my one issue with these planned changes. No one knows! And although we can have fun speculating, no one can know until Square lets us know more. But in the meantime the effect ignorance could have is troublesome. Should you buy or sell currency or alexandrites? Should you spend 13 mil on a salvage body that may be obsolete soon? Until SE can come out with some definitive info about how this will go down it seems like everything's up in the air. I hope we don't have to wait 4 months to be given some general official advice.
Maat's cap for me, then the game is going to become more of a leisurely thing. Think I'll stick with the updates and see what happens, donno if I'll even both getting the newer expansions, though if I'm planning on leveling to the caps, the new areas with the exp mobs will likely be from those expansions. All in all, I think this was a real game killer, for me at least. Although, I'm not sure what I had planned after I had gotten a Maat's cap, but 75-99 just seems a thousand times more draining.
Reverse Flourish only matters if you are "saving TP" ahead of time...otherwise, the steps refund like 1 TP more than what they took, and make X-hits an utter nightmare. AKA, not really worth it (though it'd also be an ok way to deal with TP overflow).
Sorry to be blunt, but all I'm seeing is that you aren't an analytical player, don't have a basic understanding of the game and how the formulas work, and well, are clueless. The ONLY THING that is optimized purely with birds in mind is piercing damage vs flying. Every other calculation is base on a level 81 mob with XYZ evasion/defense. Wanna know something really neat? A bird set is almost -exactly- what you want to use in Ein. Know another place you want to use it? Limbus! And another? Dynamis! Want me to keep going or are you getting the picture? Basically, every place that melee-DD truly shines. Past that, even vs things like DI, Fafnir, Nidhogg, etc, the only thing that should be changing is your food and at most 2 other slots. BECAUSE HASTE IS STILL THE BEST STAT. Ok, I'm done, get your head out of your ass, please.
Worst idea I've heard in the past week, hands down.

Violent Flourish, even with an Etoile Casaque, doesn't nearly proc as much on higher stuff as you think (even if it lands), let alone on anything thunder or earth based.
Best way to think of VF is like a stun weaponskill. It's good for meriting and salvage farming, okay in limbus/dynamis stuff, crap on any boss-type mob. Maybe it changes at 99. We'll see.
I need to get SCH to 50 ready for June.
I should level a bunch of other subs but cba.
Just a random thought that crossed my mind; keeping in mind what they said about lv75 merits sticking to the same system they're on atm while adding new ones to lv99, one can assume that a lv75 switching to merit mode while the rest of the PT lvl syncs to him would mean an endless exp PT 75-99 in one camp.
Would just create even more exp camp options instead of jumping to a new one every few lvls.
Food for thought for those who like their pink birds, I suppose.
EDIT
Quick note about what I said before someone nitpicks my statement.
I realise that the "endless" PT would end once the syncee has 10 merits + 9999 limits, but no one PT will last that long anyway. So technically, it would be an endless one, assuming the syncee has enough free merit/limit space for the whole session.
Well, not like you'll have it any better in the new areas anyway. Calling it from now, Toucans for all; reskinned, colourful Colibri.
I WOULD RATHER FIGHT CRABS AND FLIES THAN ANOTHER DAY OF COLIBRI OR MAMOOL JA
Yeah, more of a comment on the lack of utility of Violent Flourish even as a DNC main, let alone a /DNC.
I wouldn't even bother with Violent, but you're going to waste a step then (with the 5-step cap), but in the F1 category it's the best you're going to get. If you're /DNC, you're only getting 1 finishing move per step, so it'd be best just to save them all for Reverse, if that's what you're going to do.
