The group inviting restriction doesn't seem too big a deal...for me anyways.
Just message some friends if they want to do a guildleve, meet up at the place to get it, invite, grab guildleve and roll out. Seems simple enough.
It really depends on what type of add ons are allowed.
UI ones are something I always look forward to. Same with inventory sorting. Stuff like that.
But ones that can change the flow of combat are something I never bothered with in WoW. I've always been a sword and board guy, and raid leaders and group members would freak wondering why I didn't have boss add ons, threat add ons etc...
I'll be blunt. I'm just that good. I don't need no crutches. Plus, having a million things on the screen just doesn't do it for me. That's why I would like add ons for UI customization.
Plugins such as Spellcast made playing a job like RDM fun as fuck for me. I sorta hoped that SE would go the WoW route in terms of open UI development but a part of me knows that it will never happen =(
Interface is looking good so far, the big plus being we can move stuff around. Hope that includes mini map as well.
According to the new FFXI Core post from famitsu, Highlanders are male only which most likely is the race I labelled as "Barb (unknown)"
Edit: Damn I'm to slow already been posted >.<
Edit2: From famitsu:
If that's possible without using a prior ability then that may be my favorite change ever!Casting while moving is possible
to those listening to the music rip
u probably don't realize this, but 8 files in there end before they should, probably due to issues during conversion.
but they've probably been uploaded someplace... like the rest of them
useful for anyone who wants the complete set of music ripped to tide you until the OST actually releases. ^_^
It was the same in FFXI. You could only invite people in the same region as you. It's vague but that's probably what they mean. I doubt you'll need to be standing next to the person to invite them in the official release.
But if it's talking just about Alpha, then yeah. You probably do have to be standing near the person. I believe they said search wasn't available in it.
The party formation proximity isn't that big a deal, since you can warp to/from anywhere once you've been there at least once (assuming, that's what it sounds like), it seems they are giving everyone teleport and warp anyway that "won't cost much."
Everyone on the same quest can warp to the same area, from the same starting point, etc. They also have the camps where the crystals are to streamline parties, where everyone on the same tier of leveling in that area will start.
Closest thing I can compare Aeth. camps to is the Camp Terrigan FoV outpost book, everyone outposts there, gets a page/guildleve-beta and afks once they finish the page then start over again next gameday. Some people party up, some don't. Probably the same concept they're going for in guildleves. But this time they added monsters that come in groups so people who prefer parties won't have to cockblock the soloers by mowing through all the mobs in record time.
"Close" is a little vague too, since zones are supposed to be seamless, no zone lines. Depends what they mean by "close." In minimap view? They also seperate areas into regions and then subregions. I'm thinking it will probably be same subregion range, at least for retail release. Could be anything. We'll see but I'm sure most people will bring that up as a "wtf?" anyways.
Things like spellcaster were only needed because of the equipment swap spamfest "needed" when doing anything. I seriously hope and pray ffxiv hasn't been built with it in mind, don't know about you but i didn't really enjoy people blinking around and having a macro for every spell.
People making a big deal out of the invite range, We don't know exactly how far they can be and still receive an invite. Most parties will probably be formed around the tele crystals and you can freely teleport between them so forming a party shouldn't be that much of a hassle.
I'm assuming from famitsu article, after alpha there will be beta 1 and beta 2. Beta 1 will be closed and beta 2 will be open?
So I'm wondering what's going to be up with mounts in this game. It seems to be a goodly bit like FFXIII where during the latter half you can just teleport around where you want, but then we saw the dude walking with the chocobo (that was carrying his stuff, no less).
I'm hoping for personal mounts, as they always help a MMO feel a bit more alive (and take away from always having to see the same scripted and jerky run animation over and over and over....), and honestly, I think everyone could agree that SE needs to prove that they can design a better mount system than the chocobos in FFXI, with their massive limitations.
Many fights in sky/sea I did weren't all complex till like fighting thing before AV and AV.
Some stuff may not be necessary but it helps, I mean how easy would AV seem if... you had a mod telling you what TP%/timer on its abilities/spells were and what he was going to use with a countdown on it? So your group knows when to run, and or who AV is going to cast on?
Course having a million things on screen may suck to some but it lets people/game developers do 2 things.
Lets the game developer make more complex fights, and lets gamers do those complex long fights.
Also other mods not just for fights would be nice... like I mentioned a spam filter (for RMT). Maybe a bag organizer/auto toss garbage items (you set what to toss). I know myself when exping... and you just pickup a bunch of junk, after a few hours you just get too lazy to sort inventory so you don't pickup anything anymore >.>
Ui customization mods, maybe a macro managing mod... or even mods to change weapons depending on mob type (or arrows for the ranger!, although that might be too much?)
just ideas!
did they say if pc and ps3 first beta stage , will get out at the same time?
I imagine it'd be similar to FFXI, in the sense that you can teleport or OP anywhere, but chocobos still help you get around the zone faster.
I'm guessing that while we might be able to zip right on over to an aetheryte, we'll still have to walk a good ways to wherever we want to go. So mounts still make sense to cover ground faster.
