Wow wtf, shut up already. WASD will work just fine.

the patcher is a real pussy if you're using more RAM than it wants to, close everything (incl. antivirus) and it should complete easily.
I'm curious why people that didn't get in the alpha/beta are worrying about downloading the client. o.o
PS2/PS3 controller was always way more comfortable to play with anyways, and I had better reflexes with it than anybody I knew who used keyboard, with stuns and whatnot.
Controller is great, anyone who uses keyboard is missing out.
I pretty much used a controller 24/7 while on my melee DD jobs. RDM, however, I spent most of my time on the keyboard mainly because I typed a large majority of my spells pells thanks to spellcast alias. In any case, FFXI always felt sorta "clunky" using a controller (well, in general I guess). I like being able to mouse turn and whatnot versus holding down R2 on my gamepad to slowly rotate my camera.
right analog to control/move the camera >.>
That's not really where I was going with my post. FFXI really didn't have a need for addons outside of macro-swapping and Tparty, because the game was pretty damned simple. Stun the AOE or one-shotting moves, kite the boss if its supposed to be kited, and nuke the shit of it with either Sam WSes, Rng arrows, KC drks, or Blm spells. This worked for at least three-quarters of the entire game's bosses.
There are quite a few fights in WOW where if everyone isn't moving during the fight, the fight will be over quickly. Not all of them are even hard, but I'd love to see a classic FFXI player who has never touched WoW have fun with Rotface or Professor Putricide. It would be completely out of the norm for them.
WoW had more of a need for mods like Deadly Boss Mods because bosses actually used a lot of moves, and had different strats and phases to them. Even if you go old school in both games: look at bosses like Suzaku and Byakko, then compare them to Instructor Razuvious and the Grand Widow. No comparison, even those two examples are nowhere near as taxing as Putricide or Sindragosa.
With FFXIV moving towards fighting groups of mobs and an emphasis on mobility in combat, as opposed to FFXI's concept of only moving from camp to camp, or following on the asscheeks of a kited Kirin, perhaps there will be more of a concrete need for a mod or a system that eventually explains all of the moves a boss has, and what it does throughout each phase.

Old? Real? Any more?
If it's real, I hope that's alpha-only graphics. It looks horrible![]()
There's a few more boring pictures of zoomed in chat boxes with Japanese writing, and they all seem to be over top of old screenshots. I think the background of that image posted above is an actual screenshot, so it's very possibly something some bored person photoshopped up
