PS2limitations
30 Inven, 50 Mog Safe. In total it ended up being 80 slots. I mean, even back in the day, FFXI gave you a good amount of Inventory space. With FFXIV, it just seems to be on you at all times. Combine that with the 'small pouch' equipment slot and SE constantly mumbling something about Chocobos being used as pack-mules, I don't think inventory space will be as big of an issue this time around.
Though if we don't get a fully customizable mog house like personal space, I will have to choke a bitch.
I hope somebody sits the fuck down in a chair during the EU phase. If I have to spend another 7 years holding Linkshell social gathering on a dusty floor or sandy beach, I'm going to ovary punch everyone at SE repeatedly.
side note: Does the chocobo song (40) sound like a high school marching band song to anyone else? lol
No argument that that's a generous start. Some people are concerned about how much gear you'll have to carry around because of the chance that they'll have to, or want to, switch classes in the field. Plus you have the obsessive gear swappers.
This also plays into whether or not you'll have a mog house with storage. IIRC, some of the early reports suggested that you would not. If that is the case, then 80 isn't quite as generous as it seems.
If there's no house, 80 starting slots would be the same as in XI, 30 inventory + 50 mog house. However, I think we can expect some kind of extra storage. It might not be in your own house with your own moogle in it, but I'm sure there'll be something like an item bank with extra slots. Moogle Bank?
Maybe since there's no "zones" to load into they removed houses, since there's no way to fit one in that type of environment.
Reupping a fixed OST atm.
In WoW you start with what? 16 slots? And people are complaining about 80? You people need to get your heads seen to if you think 80 isn't enough for a new character. Especially if equipped gear isn't considered to be in your inventory.
Even so starting out with 80 is fine. Aion(and did cost a arm and leg later on >.> ) did not give you that much ; ; And if you START with this it be great. Even if it turns out gear swapping is a big deal again. How long do you think it will be before you hit that 3rd job and it becomes a problem?
I am willing to bet if inventory, starts to become something we complain about again, SE will add more. It is not something we need to care about.
wonder if SE will give us something for having a token again!? 160 off the bat anyone?
This issue with the inventory depends entirely on how many items the average person will carry. The reason you never had enough room in FFXI was because the game required you hold an unreasonable amount of crap at any given time. If, say, equipped gear doesn't take up inventory space like it does in FFXI, that by itself fixes a lot of issues.
Even though 80 isn't technically more than a player starts with when you include the mog house, 80 slots of on-hand inventory is quite large. I guess we'll see how it all pans out.
The difference is in WoW you pretty much full time your gear whereas in FF and job changing, you will likely need new gear consistently based on the jobs/classes you level. Although 80 is a good starting point, I would assume it will need to be increased at some point based on the class changing and likely material gathering.
I'm kinda curious as to how this is all gonna work... they've said there's a max number of users that can logon, but I wonder what the max is? Hope the queues aren't too bad and people don't get completely screwed out of logging on during that window... I mean I'd guess nearly all of the testers will wanna logon for the entire duration. I also imagine it'll be verrry crowded in the newb zone, so might be tough to get anything done. Guess we'll see!

Why FFXIV is already superior to Aion.
I'm with Gwyn.
I really hope you'll be able to use your mouse to rotate camera.
