The times posted haven't taken into account the recent summertime clock change, so yeah, 1hr and a bit. Was the same with the client download, was spamming for 20min before I realised.
You can't switch weapons in combat, because that could mean changing class. You can do that outside combat, and if you are in a pt trying to balance abilities, you might change jobs more than once. This could mean no gear changes in combat. We'll need to know more about gearing first though.
The other point I was getting at is that there are people who gear swap obsessively in FFXI, and getting them to changes habits and not carry three sets of gear per job around might be a teensy-weensy challenge.
[Removed Info about alpha]
The FFXIV Alpha OST v2 is now available.
The original OST had two songs missing, and 8 corrupt songs due to my hastiness in converting them.
So, it now has all 74 (known) songs in their fullest.
Forced mouse use is a no-no in my book. Ideally, every command should be able to be assigned to whatever button a player desires. Both Blizzard and NC kinda seem to half-ass that as, while you might be able to create a similar control scheme as XI (and now XIV), you'd still have to use the mouse to confirm window options, equip gear, move items around, put on AH, etc..
I use a wireless keyboard and a lot of times I'm sitting sideways in relation to my monitor with my feet propped on my bed and my keyboard on my lap. If I want to use my mouse, I'm basically extending my arm to the side, and in long duration gameplay, that can mean my shoulder cramping or even the underside of my forearm going a bit numb against the edge of my desk. Sure, I usually sit more properly in more attention-demanding situations, but if I'm just muckin' around casually, I wanna sit casually, too.
Between F-keys and (shift+)tab targeting, I just don't see what benefits a mouse really offers. Figure the average mouse is 3 buttons (right, left, scroll) while the XI scheme can put like 29 within easy access of your right hand. Sure, some might argue special gaming mice, but fuck $70+ hardware for something you could work around if devs were more malleable on controls.
But really, since the game has to play well on consoles with only a gamepad, they couldn't require mouse for any UI actions (controlling a cursor with a stick feels weird), but nice to see it's not a requirement for camera control either.
Meh they should have split the platform base from the start, the PS3 limitations will all end in tears 2 years down the road anyway.

Cool thanks a lot Seph.
Re: mouse... I hate using a mouse and I'm... shitty? with a gamepad so I hope they keyboard commands are sufficient for almost everything.
Like Arus said, probably 95% of the time I'd rather be comfortable and sitting in some horrible for my posture position with a keyboard in my lap and a mouse nowhere to be seen... personal preference though I suppose.
Thats how i play also at least on FF11, but I don't play this way on WoW or Aion for the simple fact that I have a better option avalible to me, besides the fact that I can't of course :D
