Meh, I'm used to gamepad so much. Can hold the controller which just a pinky/ring finger and type with the rest. Yeah it's weird. lol

I think i'm the exact opposite. I much prefer to use the mouse to move and rotate camera. WASD feels clunky and slow to me. I'll be happy if the mouse is set up like WoW or Aion.

i use the num pad on ffxi, i love it. i hate clicking everything, im all keyboard, i do hate wasd tho

Well, i used a gamepad for XI, which is why i'm so not used to WASD.

It all depends on how quick and responsive the controls will be. Hopefully we'll have the option to change camera speeds. If not then i'll want to kill myself using a mouse to turn the camera at XI's speed.

MMO's require a lot of typing and communication. Using Vent or something can allow you to communicate without using keyboard or mouse, but you can only talk to people you are connected to. And so requiring you to use a mouse for anything at all instead of the keyboard forces you to spend your time choosing between one or the other. You can pay attention during a busy fight or you can talk, but doing both is very awkward moving between keyboard and mouse. When someone asks you a question you actually get ANNOYED because responding to them could get you killed.

That's why being able to bind any controls to the keyboard is essential IMO. Using the keyboard for both grants you the least interruption between controlling and typing.

I don't really like WASD, either (feels like putting too much emphasis on the left hand with me being a righty), and I wouldn't call the numpad method WASD. Mouse style, my thumb's doing jack. Numpad, camera manipulation is easy and you can do up/down+left/right shifts once you're more comfortable with the style. Either way, in terms of camera control or physical movement, you can only move two cardinal directions at once max and the actual need to rapidly flip-flop wasn't very common in XI, and not really so in Aion either short of heavy PvP situations.

I don't think i've had to type in years, but yeah i agree requiring anything is silly. The more options and customization, the better.

Yeah I've nearly been killed as it is tanking on NIN or THF because I thought I could reply to someone (nope) and that was using a keyboard. Using vent is good even though it can be hard to actually communicate on there sometimes, plus anyone playing on PS3 won't be able to unless they have a PC standing by.

That combined with how it seems like even just melee will become a very tactical type of play... not much time to talk as it is.

n52te + naga was perrrrfect for Aion. Here's hoping i can carry that over.

The whole which is better, keyboard or mouse, IMO depends on the game. I would say the num pad and the arrows for camera is my favorite setup, but does not work in all games. In WoW some of the fights require fast turning and movement and using the keyboard to turn and face the other direction takes to much time and can end in death. The mouse is key to being able to turn and start moving in the opposite direction in an instant.

I would rather not use the mouse, and I'm very excited to see that it looks like FFXIV controls will be very similar to FFXI. But with the dev team hinting several times how movement will be key in battles, maybe we will find the mouse to be superior for faster turn speeds...

Someone definately needs to make a video of the opening movie sequence, i think it's the same thing that was shown at Vana'fest that nobody else ever got to see.

This is just great, i'm being flooded with all kinds of information and goodies. I just need a few videos to top off my collection.
