The whole which is better, keyboard or mouse, IMO depends on the game. I would say the num pad and the arrows for camera is my favorite setup, but does not work in all games. In WoW some of the fights require fast turning and movement and using the keyboard to turn and face the other direction takes to much time and can end in death. The mouse is key to being able to turn and start moving in the opposite direction in an instant.

I would rather not use the mouse, and I'm very excited to see that it looks like FFXIV controls will be very similar to FFXI. But with the dev team hinting several times how movement will be key in battles, maybe we will find the mouse to be superior for faster turn speeds...

Well, if you REALLY needed fast camera panning like a turn around, you could just step backward (not locked onto anything so you'd turn around) and toggle first person mode quickly. Probably faster than mouse pan unless games have sensitivity tweaks I didn't know about. Admittedly, this can get a bit disorienting if you're doing it a lot in rapid succession, but I don't think it was ever common. Plus I think some newer games might even have a camera reset button that just puts it to your back automatically, too.

But yeah, the ease of shifting from control to typing is also a factor. I'll never really understand how people can like controllers in this respect, as they have to find a place to sit the pad down out of the way of keys, make sure their hands are aligned properly so they don't type "jr;;p" instead of "hello", and then have to grab their controller again when finished. That's like a mandatory second or two of delay added onto play each time it happens. At least keyboard/mouse style lets your left hand serve as an anchor on the keyboard even if the right's going back and forth. Even then I'd still get some typing flubs from time to time.

I am less worried about the controls, especially if you read through them all, the only concern i have is that the mouse is as crappy as FF11 with its slow responce and auto panning crap.

Not sure if this has been answered (Been following the topic as a guest for 30~ pages) but how exactly do battles work? Like if you have your basic attack set to 1 and you hit 1 to choose it as your next move when the action gauge is full, do you then have to hit 1 again to actually use it (assuming the effort gauge stops filling after the action gauge finishes or something)?

So in summary do you have to select your move twice to actually use it?

If i were to make a video of myself playing Aion, you'd swear i was on crack or something. I'm constantly whipping my camera around at 1000mph while i'm just standing around or while i'm fighting mobs. It's mostly due to having to watch your back for ganks, which obviously won't be needed for XIV.

I have a FRIEND willing to share game vids but he's having issues syncing up the sound and recording hi-res mode.

I tested it a moment ago and it worked fine, he will have to edit the names out in a video editor.

Easiest way would be to just put a block of colour over the text window.

Camstudio is really slow from my experience especially with high res stuff.
