There's a difference between information in text on a site like this - and a crummy youtube video put up by some bum on an Acer laptop from '00 that has no clue what hes doing and makes an early build of a game - look like complete crap. While we here might know the difference, while that is still a stretch saying that, random people searching youtube or linked by friends to that crummy video could give bad first impressions.

Time has been flying by for me which is cool. I just pray FFXIV comes out in 2010, 2011 just sounds so damn far away. The fall of this year sounds like a good release date. And I wouldnt even mind the trickling of content like what they usually do with XI expansions so long as the content is good, fuctional and they release the whole game quickly.

I think you are underestimating how tech-savvy the average gamer usually is.

Not that it was hard to figure out on FFXI, but that's cool how weapons show what type of damage they deal now. Slashing/Piercing/etc.

I think you are overestimating the 'common video game consumer' though. Obviously if they only sold copies to the people whom are on this forum and the other fan sites they would hardly have enough to recoup any money at all. I mean just visit some of the other fansites as it is and you will see a lot of "Bawwwwwwwww these graphics are horrible, the frame rate is atrocious, etc etc" and this is supposed to be the "more hardcore" of the fanbase of the game - so far and even some of them can't understand the concept of work in progress and the like. Eorzapedia had a few people bawwing over the fact that you could fall through one of the steps and get kicked from the client and were saying they might not purchase the game on that basis alone since the game 'obviously is broken already'. While they obviously aren't the average of the people who visit these forums - what's the point in taking a chance with having to deal with bad PR on an unfinished product.
