Pretty sure that applies only to Open Beta. Get used to recreating characters each time in alpha.

I think they also said that they would have to deal with alpha/beta character names that are the same as names people create with the retail version.

IE, it sounded like you would have to transfer your character (just name and looks) from the beta to the retail, it doesn't happen automatically. That way, people don't have to play the beta to guarantee the name they want, as long a they're fast enough w/ retail.
