Some players are just taking it as a personal insult from Square to their "loyalty" to the game to not be selected first.

It's not the end of the world.

This thread needs less QQing about not getting a beta email. 500,000 people play the game and the majority of the players playing the game today have been around since at least the days when CoP was first coming out. It doesn't matter if you've been around even longer then that, you're still just 1 out of 500,000 players.

What makes it even worse is it's the first god damn round of beta and everyone is already acting like it's the end of the world, you guys act like you think they should have took the 100,000 players with the highest playtime in XI and let them all beta test the first round at once.

Kind of. Alpha is generally a product that's not even necessarily finished, so some significant portions may be missing. Beta is generally when they have a reasonable idea of what they want to release, but they want to try it out and fix any bugs and possibly add some last minute changes.

In an MMO (or other online games like sc2), most of the alpha/beta testing is for balancing. It takes a significant amount of *real* gameplay to really get an idea of what's overpowered and what's underpowered, etc; something the devs can't really do on their own since it's often difficult to predict how things will be played. Hell, even eight years after the release of ffxi they're still making changes to help balance things.

i could care less that i didnt get chosen, ill still hang out with most of you cool ppl eventually lol. but work and RL is beating my ass, i wouldnt have done any justice anyways. i just hope you guys flood the board with pics and pics and more pics, followed with even more pics and youtube videos

My heart skipped when I got home from work today I had an email from "Support" was for Blizzard :[! Atleast that issue got fixed.

Like a lot of us, and has been mentioned I have been playing and paying for FFXI monthly since English day 1, 2003.

Yeah, youre totally right, but unfortunately I think SE is going to have to fish out info from certain players who arent going to report issues. Anytime ive done beta, theres always those people that complain about issues to ME, or other FRIENDS in the beta, rather than report it.
