does anyone know if you have unlimited arrows or do you have to buy arrows like in ffxi? (sry if this was allready asked)

It is probably like how merits affect your new jobs in ffxi.
Like you need to be a level 10 blm to gain 1 level of elemental skill merit you learnt from playing a 75 rdm.
And you need to be level 60 or so to gain full benefits from the stats(merits) you have gained so far.
Forgot the exact numbers but, yea.
So uber mage means not so uber melee jobs :/ which is why they allow a respec between the melee and mage realm.
Hopefully the difference is something like in ffxi, like if you merit axe and gaxe, your 75 thf can't be the best it can be, but at least your thf can still do well if played like a pro.
Well, just speculation.
Aw, but where's the fun in that?
Personally I like the "investment" aspect of character development too, which is the way I designed the game I keep mentioning, but it also doesn't mesh well at all with one of the core concepts of the game that SE is making. That is, that you can be proficient on all classes with a single character. It runs very contrary to invested character development.
I don't think the comparison to merits really works. The stats you gained from merits were a drop in the bucket compared to your overall total, even without the bonuses from gear. From what we've seen of XIV, it looks like the entirety of our stats comes from our own allocation.
It's not really the same as missing out on 16 magic skill levels, it's more like being a 75 BLM and only having 10 INT.
Well, maybe.
Just watched Pooky's video and damn this game looks great for an alpha version.
Maybe it'll work backwards from how we're thinking.
We're assuming your physical level is the primary level, and you just skill up the classes to your current cap for the level, like skillups in FFXI. What if class levels are the primary level, and your physical level is capped in relation to that? Like changing jobs in FFXI will cap your weapon skill at a lower level than it really is, if your new job is lower level or less proficient.
What if you grind your way to physical level 20 as a Gladiator, then when you switch to Archer, your physical level is capped to the skill level of your archer and automatically goes up as your archer levels without the need for more physical xp, the way your already-levelled weapon skills go up as your new job levels up, without needing to skill up in FFXI. Then, you just need to worry about skilling up your class, while at the same time not having 1200 MP as a brand new Conjurer.
This would imply the grind is in the class levelling, like regular job levelling in FFXI, and the physical levels will have to be "caught up" like skillups in FFXI.
So now that you've played:
- What do the elemental stats do? Are they just resists as in XI, or do they actually influence things like spell power?
- How many points do you get to distribute per level? If you've gotten to level 3, did you get more than you got when you hit 2?
- Can you actually put points into max TP? The screenshots don't show any number next to it, but there's still a "+" near it.
- Do the points you allocate stay the same when you change jobs? Or do they belong to the job that allocated them?
- Have points in STR or VIT made much of a difference against the low level mobs?
The character creation was amazingly laggy for me but the actual game and game play was not....found that very odd
You raise a good point. I assumed that it didn't work this way because reports are that physical stats didn't change when jobs changed, but that could just be because those stats haven't reached the cap determined by the skill level.
Seems a bit unlikely but would be a very simple solution to the "problem" of not having to relevel new classes. I'd certainly be cool with it.
Lotsa people still watching the pooky stream rerun. I see Japanese, Chinese, Korean, English, and I think French as well, in the little chat. They seem to be carrying a long discussion on ChineseJP racism though rather than on the video.
Hello. Long time reader, first time poster.
The idea is good, but unfortunetly i dont think it will work that way because my friend, with whom i was in voice chat while playing hit physical level 3 while still being level 1 conjurer. If i understood your idea, physical level could not be above job level :/
edit: something i like to add to this problem:
each time you rise an attribute like str, hp, mp, etc, it becomes more expensive. maybe that way se doesnt want us to push some stats to an extrem; yes i know, that still doesnt solve the prob in case you switch class and your physical level remains the same.
a few questions i can answer:
physical level 2 friend got 70 points to distribute, level 3 i think the same, but unsure of that. and he could not raise max tp.
So that Pooky guy was banned?
Not entirely what we're talking about, but does make it seem less likely that it's already implemented.

Think about skills from FFXI. They go up separately from your character level, and they're capped according to your character level, but they are in no way clearly related to your character level. In many parts of the game, people tended not to cap their skill level for their character level on their first job. Basically the reverse of this.
To toss out an example, your STR could be capped at 100 if your skill level is 1. We won't know if this is the case until someone gets to a reasonably high physical level and then changes to a low skill level.
Again, seems unlikely given what we know, but at least makes for a good fix to the problem of overpowered low-skill characters (assuming that's a problem) alongside the respec fix I'm guessing they'll need.
