Egos should be dropped on both sides.

It would be torture if every stream until open beta is going to be Lalafell all day. I know I'm making a prediction on -two- streams, but oh lawd I can make an educated guess by previous mmo experiences.

People who say FFXIV's combat is a lot like FFXI are people who have not read anything about FFXIV and are deciding what a game is like based on (literally!) level 1. Even then, FFXIV is pretty different from FFXI simply because of manual attacks and being able to charge your attack, but I just want to point out how stupid these people are when you think about it. Hold your tongue and just read shit. No one wants your analysis if you are not even caught up on the official page!

Also, my biggest fear with FFXIV atm is that it will take as much as 40 or 50 levels for you to get 10 or so abilities. Basically FFXI was very slow with abilities until that point, where you main job started picking up and subjob stopped sucking. We nothing to say one way or another... but if attacks and abilities do take a long time to accumulate to a full bar, then I hope I can alleviate it with multiple "sub jobs."

There were no mobs spawned anywhere I went outside, so the only battle I had was the opening one, and it's pretty confusing at first getting used to the new buttons. No help messages yet. Frame rate was very sluggish most times, and it's capped at 30fps. Menu's are kinda bland, and are a little delayed. the mouse and camera move too slow. Some ambient sounds are too loud, (footsteps) some are too soft.

Too early to say much, but it looks like they put a lot of effort into how everything looks, the environments are beautiful. I hope they put that same effort back into performance.

    Specs:
    i7 860 2.8Ghz
    4GB DDR3
    ATI HD5770
    Win7 x64

Put a ton of bug reports and suggestions in on the beta forums, they seem committed to listening to us this time, we'll see how that goes.
Good to hear. Though I heard most of the suggestions SE received during the EU and NA were "lost" and has asked people to resubmit them.

So how exactly is the mouse utilized? Is it pretty useless like it was in XI? Or can you use it for, say, camera control? Targetting?

Quote for fucking truth, jesus. People need to actually start reading all of the info that's out there. It's really only identical to XI in the way that you have weapons and you hit things with them.

Granted, I'd actually prefer that these people don't actually start playing the game, as they'll just end up being headaches later.

If I remember right, every class has around 20~ or so abilities, at least in the dats?

Assuming the level cap were 50 for retail version, you'd be able to gain 10 abilities by the time you're level 25 or so. Doesn't sound that bad.

But the cap could be 100 for all we know, so it's a valid concern.

Ugh, this is a problem one of my friends has. And I'm this close to punching him in the face. Every time we start chatting about XIV, he always goes on about how it's exactly like XI, and not just visually. Showed him the first fight on the boat, and he moaned how slow it was and how the person wasn't strafing or moving around.

Newsflash, what the fuck do people expect? I remember my first combat experience and kill in WoW. It was a wolf. And I bludgeoned it to death with auto attack. Whoop dee freaking doo. How people can just judge something on the first, entry experience is mind boggling.

I have to say that visually it has the same feel so thats probably where a lot of people are judging the game, add that to the slow paced alpha video's and there is no wonder they are jumping to conclusions, that aside i think once a player gets several actions under his belt the combat will pick up in speed quite a bit and will play considerably different.

Not to mention once people get to group up and position/direction actually starts to matter as well as whatever the regimen thing does, I don't think it will be anything like XI at that point.

NDAs exist for exactly this reason.

People who think like that in the first place were never really interested in it to begin with. That, or they're complete dip shits who can't understand the concept of alpha status and tutorial style game entry. The whole genre of MMO is about progressing to get to those good points. Not everything will be there for you at the start, never.

I enjoy leaks as well, but a lot of people don't seem to understand what the purpose of an NDA is. SE knows they're going to get most of the FFXI playerbase in FFXIV, and that FFXI players will basically take whatever they can get. Non-FFXI players are their real target, and they don't want them scared away by boring level 1 fights against buggy rats.

Can't remember if its been stated somewhere, but how does claiming monsters work?

    Like FFXI? WoW? Aion?

Couldn't get outside the city walls to test it myself -.-

The game is unfinished, and might not reflect the future final product that's ready for the public. Developers simply do not want the whole world to have the wrong impressions of their game, and SE developers themselves have stated this in the past unless I remember wrong, back before they announced players would be able to play in the alpha.

But good job jumping on the anti-NDA bandwagon without even knowing what you're yelling against.

after i reached goldshire and started doing those quests i realized what formula that got WoW to where it is. Sure the quest's get a little more diverse in Outland, by level 5 i pretty much figured out what made WoW tick.

Now at the same time this could be an Aion situation, where the devs cunningly deceive us into thinking 1-10 = 1-50, while the reality is quite different. Hopefully not, but with large portions of the core progression system missing (if stat point distributions is really that big of a deal) then all we can do is wait.

Also if people who played think level 1 or 2 or w/e they played at felt slow or dull, go to the beta forums and LET THEM KNOW. Make a new topic or something, be like, "Yo, so last night levels 1-2 that i played at felt very slow"
