Which I like because some MMOs dont have open betas period and that turns me off from buying a game without trying it. Who cares if it's just one area? You're only likely to have a week tops to screw around in it anyway, I can live with just one area for that amount of time. All it really means is when the real game comes out, if you can't carry over beta characters I'll just start in a different area.

Not sure if its ok to link to another site, but they just updated with some old and new(atleast to me) info on the front page.

    Up next: BATTLE REGIMENS!

    A regimen for strategy

When fighting a powerful opponent with your party, you can use a system called “battle regimen” to link your attacks with the attacks of other members in your party. This has a chance to add special effects. Here’s how it works:

1.Decide the order of attacks by discussing it with your party

2.When your turn in the regimen comes, press the button next to the action meny to change to regimen mode, and select your move.

3.When all members have entered their moves, someone presses the button to activate the regimen.

4.Depending on the actions and order selected, effects may be added.

Moves in battle regimens do not need any special properties. For example, a gladiator’s slashing attack and a marauder’s axe attack gave the enemy a “physical defense down” status effect. The same effect was produced when the marauder changed to pugilist and used a regular punching attack. The effect changes depending on the order and the skills used, so I’m looking forward to finding the best combinations. In this experiment, we only used regular attacks, but it still lowered the enemy’s defense. Battle regimens using elemental attacks and magic will surely have even more powerful specialized effects.

This should be pretty cool. I'm interested in how it will work out.
That Q&A is new to me, clears a couple things up. For the most part, it sounds like Beta 1 = Alpha 2.0 with the primary change being server stability and the ability to have multiple servers up at the same time, increasing feedback quantity. Then Beta 2 is where they start implementing changes based on previous feedback, and players can go up to a couple hundred thousand.

Really sounds like a good plan, so right now all SE needs to do is get those servers stable. if you got in the alpha it sounds like your just guinea pigs for a, "can you hear me now?" type deal.

    OH and feedback too

So far the only relationships that seemed at all apparent to me were that Oschon (wind) is close to both of the Ice goddesses, and that both of the Lightning gods were subservient to the water deities. Maybe it would be worth taking a stab at astral/umbral alignments if we're going to speculate whether there's any overlay between the god's relationships and their elements.
Yeah, doesn't look like a whole lot stands out with their relationships. Could just be lore with no real purpose I suppose...

    So here's a question...

All of the beta servers in FF XI were assigned a name. Did any one happen to see if this FF XIV alpha server had a name?

Just trying to see if I can figure out the theme for servers. Whether they're going to stick to Summons like they did in XI, or perhaps switch it up and do something like Final Fantasy Cities, Enemies, Jobs, characters, what ever.

It's obvious you didn't even attempt to read back the last 2-3 pages where it has been said and links result in finding your answer.

I'm a little confused actually as to how Alpha Beta transition happens. Can someone enlighten me on the subject? After Alpha ends, only the people who were in Alpha continue onto Beta or there's a separate registration for Beta? Please explain the process.

After alpha they will let more people in. Not sure if they will use the apps they already have, or have everyone reapply. Looks like each phase of beta will add more and more people to ensure servers are stable before retail release.

And yes, it was said that alpha testers will be in the beta.

Bah... I read pages 88 - 141, got tired of reading the thread, so I skipped to the last page, read this page and the last two posts on 146 to double check, but sure enough if I just scrolled up 146 a little bit more...

    Sorry about that... /blush

Imagine if you had a 15 person battle regimen
and done in the right order it could take down a NM in one shot

Has SE said anything about what they are looking to test in each of the two phases? What distinguishes a beta test from an alpha test?

Alpha testing is very limiting and most unstable. The difference between the alpha and beta phase 1 is more servers and invites. Beta phase 2 will probably again have more invites and it is said will be incredibly polished compared to the former.

As far as content, that is specified before the testing phases. They will focus on all different kinds of mechanics to the game at different times atm and won't know til you're called upon, pretty much.

The only thing jumps at me from this, is the elemental weakness correlation.

    Deities Azurewrath! not Dieties!

I know a poster made a comment about the Q&A over at http://www.ffxivcore.com and I think it's a very interesting interview because it mentions this part:

    Q. The battle is command-oriented, but will the time it takes to use a command differ from weapon to weapon?
    A. Yes. Furthermore, we will be adjusting this timing based on the alpha testers’ feedback.

The battle regimen is very intriguing but seems like it'll play out slow.. won't know till it's seen in action though.
