    And so it was done!

Publicized people complaining about publicizing the complaining, by request of course. Not as good of a read.
Sonomaa must be wearing hip waders to be posting in that thread. I find it funny how some of them think the people who didn't get in to the beta test but are demanding info are "elitist," when they come off as elitist for being the chosen ones who were hand picked by SE to be their beta testers. Really, what makes them more deserving info about 14 than other people.

I imagine with the "just hit tab" approach, there'd be a lot of accidental hitting the wrong mob and causing lots of wipes at worst, or lost fighting time at best while you alt+tabbed for a sec during the fight and came back to be "too far away" from some other mob 30' away.
How would you accidentally hit something when there's no auto attack though? You just have to pay attention. I'd rather it be as simple as hitting tab > make sure you're on correct target > hit skill.

Agree that FF14 could do with being more fluid between switching targets during battle, not just that though also the speed in which you can attack the next target aswell.

FF14 looks like its going to be party vs party affair most of the time though and most of the abilities are AoE based so I don't think it matters so much what you are attacking aslong as you are doing party damage.

Since there is no auto attack: left and right on the d-pad to change target, up to target the PT leader's PC target, down to target the PT leaders NPC target.

I'll be happy if 14's targeting system doesn't have 11's bug where you accidently get stuck targeting yourself when you're hit with an AoE while trying to use a targetable JA.

The fact that SE said they could have it.
    Other than that, nothing. It's not a god-given right, it's a Square-Enix given right.

That said, I don't agree with their attitudes but what can be done? Pretty much nothing.

How would you even manage this if you're paying attention?

I'd rather not have to waste time confirming if there's an emergency and I have to target another mob quickly.

That reminds me, was there a target lock?

We will laugh at them during the entirety of these testing phases, and when Final Fantasy XIV sells well and plays well at release, we'll all be like:

That is a really good point about the no auto attack. I guess the only problem preventing simple tabbing would be tabbing out in the middle of a battle regimen. Suppose they could put a lock on you target until your skill goes off in the BR.

Gonna have to +1 this. I'm all for calling out a dbag, but in this thread I'm just looking for alpha/beta info.

Much respect to all the alpha testers here and in that thread that didn't forget they too once craved the same type of info. I like how all these guys are saying shit about becoming e-famous...nobody but a bunch of us XIV fiends know shit about it, there's very little fame involved imo.

More on topic, I hope they send out a few more invites for the next few scheduled alpha tests, but it looks like that's not going to happen. I know they said they will be sending invites in waves, but will they send them in...sub-waves? >.>

edit 93: i'm apparently too high to post

I notice how little effect the crits seem to have in the alpha vid's chat logs? Is this the norm or something :/

    Terrible idea, huh?

Remember the control scheme in FFXI? You had to hold R2 or L2 to bring up your macros and use the D-Pad navigate through them to execute your commands. The only difference is FFXIV doesn't have that god-awful menu with commands like "switch target" "abilities" "magic" "disengage" and "check". This will free up the D-Pad for targeting.

I get it. When Square thought this system up, it was great.. But because I suggested it, it's a piece of shit? Right?

I'd be fine even if they reversed it. I don't give a fuck:

    D-Pad = command navigation
    R2 + D-pad = targeting

Didn't I read that you could induce a crit if you let your action bar charge all the way up? Seems it might be that they're not too much stronger on purpose.

I thought that increased your damage rather than induced a crit.

Switching targets was a pain in XI, but that's probably more down to the speed than the method. It definitely needs to be implemented better in XIV.

I'd be willing to bet that as the critical strike rating on your weapons increases, the frequency and/or strength of crits will be much more significant. Don't forget that people are capped at a very low level here, and are in newbie gear.

It does... the 1st White Arrow is pointing at the first bar, it charges again after you hit swing (hit or miss), takes like less than a second or so. The 2nd Blue Arrow is pointing at the strength gauge (for lack of a better word), it cycles between 0, 1, 2, and 3. I noticed when i waited for it for be full @ 3, i would crit more often than not. I think I always crit'd, but i don't remember now.

Yeah, but the multiplier seems extremely poor. not even 1.5x of a normal attack. I suppose it might change by each individual weapon, rather than weapon class.
