One of the testers, possibly even in this thread, said that they got a critical every time they let their effect gauge fill up to the full 3 bars.

But it's impossible to know if this is going to stay that way, or even how many times he tested this.

I've heard from some people that it raises the damage and only increases the chance of a crit.

By the way, can anybody PM me a link to the Pookystream video?

It may just be increase your damage as well as give you a high chance to crit when you let it fill to 3

That's what I meant. Like a newbie axe with a crit rating of "crap" might be 1.1x strength, but an endgame axe with a crit rating of "awesomesauce" might get a 2x multiplier if not higher. ^^ Alternatively, crit multiplier is probably affected by your stats; as you spend points to raise stats, crits may get stronger.

    Disclaimer: Pure speculation!

What might be the difference between Weapon Skill Proficiency and Weapon Skill Points? Proficiency seems to go up every time the weapon is used, whereas Skill Points only when an enemy has been defeated.

I don't understand why you think that menu was so "god-awful". Aside from your previously stated dumb idea, how would you have done it? Make the user hit an extra button to bring up that menu? Reorganize the menu?

The FFXI interface is woeful and had its share of problems, but I'm 100% sure that your line of thinking would just make it worse.

Yeah, we can go with that. Not like I'm strokin' off to Square's widely-heralded PC development squad here, but you don't really seem to be able to articulate what your problem is, and why it's their problem and not yours.

My point is basically this - you're railing on them for a design flaw that I've never heard anyone complain about until you came along. The XI interface is slow, yes. Navigating through a bunch of enemies takes forever, yes. Haivng two extra button-presses involved to make sure that you don't accidentally change targets in an auto-attack system seems like a pretty safe choice to me, and that's pretty much the only thing you're going to be able to change here. If you take out the button confirmation, you're still gonna have to tab through a billion rabbits to get to the one you're actually trying to target

Sure. In terms of the XI interface, make it R1, since that button basically does nothing anyway IIRC.

I uploaded Pooky videos to /videos/ on my site because people were asking and I forgot where I got it from. So if you want those (and a few others), go there.

It's in every other mmo to change targets like that. Not being in this one would just mean SE is retarded. I've said it a few times this topic but there's a big difference between "requiring a mouse" and then "ignoring it completely". Both of them are completely fucking stupid, but imo, the latter more so for the PC version.

Got a question for the alpha testers that I don't think anyone has asked. Is it possible to target a party member simply by clicking his health bar/name or is it still F1, F2 etc. or tabbing through all the different targets to find said member?

I believe that on one of the Alpha manuals it said that the 2nd bar will raise your damage, but lower your accuracy.

And a lot they HAVE learned from WoW GUI-wise, if the alpha is any indication. The chat window and the action bar of skills at the bottom are very reminiscent of WoW, for example.

End tangent. Regardless, menus in WoW were nigh-nonexistant. It was much faster and much easier, though the whole time I was playing it there were things I missed from FF--target locks and smarter tab targeting (i.e. target the thing that's super-close to me and slightly left instead of the thing that's super-far and slightly right for fuck's sakes) for example... though most targeting was mouse-driven regardless.

A lot of FFXI's failings can be traced back to the fact that it was designed to be played mouseless. Hopefully SE has learned to shy slightly away from making everything menu-driven. While enter-tab-tab-enter was never hard unless there was a swarm of campaign mobs around the thing you wanted to get to, the delay induced by menus made it awkward.

Just to add some info, my computer could NOT run the alpha with the following specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)
    English (Regional Setting: English)
    System Model: MacBookPro4,1
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

I'll have to wait until I order my new PC to test, I suppose.

During character creation, could get a random name? Something that fits into the setting?

Graphic Card was at the fault I think? They said minimum is GeForce 8800 512mb.

Yeah, I was pretty sure my graphics card would be the culprit. It's always worth a shot to try though. Just because it says Minimum in Alpha testing does not mean it's the bare minimum that will work.

Yeah Arelian your comp looks like it should be able to run it if you just get a better graphics. One of my alpha friends got a new one for $150 for this. He lived in NJ so it was a free 1 day delivery from newegg (3 day is free but the warehouse is in NJ or some shit)

Well the difference in the cards is quite important in this case and I'm not surprised you couldn't run it.
