I thought so too, and we have a wiki thread here asking about it, but I figure the wiki owners are probably not going to try putting the current alpha info in because it is very subject to change, and correcting every little page would be painful. Maybe once CB2 gets here and the game is more finalized.
I know this has been discussed, but I don't remember it specifically or where.
Some fights in vanilla wow used to take a lot more coordination and strategy than any fights in FFXI :/ Though, I think a lot may have had to do with getting 40 people to listen <_<;
Its hard to compare because youre right, navigating 40 people is harder than 18. I remember in DAoC, doing dragon raids.. we always failed when we brought everyone we could, like 30-60 people. When we did it as 3 groups of 6 we beat it first try. Less numbers + better players = win, imo. Ive never played a game that was as hard as some of the ffxi fights. I remember when sea first came out it was pretty difficult. Finding out how to beat prudence... man, so many deaths in two hours. A few of us deleveled from 44k xp trying to keep it popped.
Maybe skill rank is for abilities and proficiency affects damage or accuracy somehow?
who knows
In regards to the walking over "edges", I was looking out for that in one of pooky's vids and saw him easily walk down a ledge which would've stopped a player in FFXI.
I mean to put it better when you get to max rank you're at max rank, no more abilities
but if your proficiency was for dam/acc and that COULD keep going up, the longer you played the class the better you'd be at it.
is it going to be like evasion skill+ vs. evasion+ you think?
i remember evasion skill+ allowed yuou to evade high level monsters, and evasion+ allowed you to evade more often. I remember on my thief with 321 evasion skill and +96 evasion i was able to solo an IT enkidu... kinda solo... i just needed a whm to remove slowness sometimes lol. With slowness id always die though :/ I tanked seiryu kirin spawn for 2 minutes though!
Where did you have issues walking off ledges in XI?
yea i was thinking more along those lines. i wonder how it will fit into XIV's mechanics. but another thing i noticed was it wouldnt notify you in the chat if your proficiency went up a rank, just your class skill, or maybe i missed it.
you think there will be gear that adds bonuses to your proficiency? how big of a role does proficiency play? i got tons of thoughts running in my head lol. im trying not to compare it too heavily to ffxi, as i already see big differences (aside from obviously the aesthetic similarities they share).
That right there Vacht is why I'm starting to lose interest in Pugilist. I wanted a class like Monk which was a hand-to-hand fighter but wasn't an evasion tank. But pugilist since it's like a combined monk, thief, ninja, etc very well could end up the evasion tank class. And I don't want to tank period.
Which is why I may end up as a Marauder instead even though I like hand to hand better.
fucking evasion tanking
FF11 required skills? Of what? Getting the best claim-bot? lol
Gear progression was not simply a hinderance from the gear aspect of the game, but also a guided learning curve. You don't go to Karazhan to just get gear, but also learn some basic mechanics of Tanking, DPS, and healing with regards to boss fights. I'm not going to have someone in 5-man gear tank bosses in Hyjal because the obviously he's undergeared, I'm also not going to have someone who never done Karazhan tank bosses in Hyjal because I doubt he knows how to position bosses and not let it cleave the raid or position the spawns and not let them blow up the raid when they die.
By the way, skill and gear have a negative correlation with each other in WoW. If you have really good gear, you wouldn't need really good skill, and vice versa. I could link you that guild that killed Illidan with nothing but vanilla WoW gear, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are at least intelligent enough to know how to google.
Only people who cry about gears in WoW are those who don't have any skills to get any gear to begin with.
edit: You know what I find really funny? The same people who cry about how gear dependent WoW encounters tend to be are also the people who sneeze at how easy it is to get gears in WoW.
And FF11 takes more skills? When a new endgame encounter is taken down in WoW, the whole community wants to see a video and find out what kind of strategy they used to beat it. When a new endgame encounter is taken down in FF11, the whole community wants a head count of how many people in the team got relics.
Meh.
lolbut also a guided learning curve.
Karazhan or any raid for that matter only teaches you 1 thing. That fights will have gimmicks to them. But then again 5mans basically teach you the exact same things. Most bosses even for that matter, in raids have mechanics compromised of a handful of skills from 5man dungeon bosses.
Someone going to Kara before Hyjal isn't going to learn anything more then if they just went to Hyjal. You learn about cleaving bosses and everything else just leveling up and doing 5mans.
Look at ICC25/10. Did anyone really need to do Naxx>Uld>ToC to be able to go in there?
I'm still confused as to how party mechanic will work. Can someone explain if there's sufficient information on the subject?
