I'd be content with just being able to spend an hour or so and feel like I accomplished something, honestly. Even if it's a little bit towards a new level. 4+ hour parties start to grind on the nerves something fierce, especially since you don't want to ditch on 5 other people. I don't have as much time as I used to for this kind of stuff. The Guildleves look like they'll be great for those times I don't have a ton of time to dedicate towards a full exp session.
Same, it seems like they're doing that.

I hope they don't go crazy over "hardcore" endgame events again. I don't want another Salvage/Dynamis type of event where it takes over 1.5 hours to complete.

Fuck yeah Panktration! I see Apkallu in the mob list, time to kick some ass again.

Starting as a mage didn't allow them to melee. Although Square themselves have said plenty of skills carry across jobs. I'd expect them to be limited to each disciple set (IE: Disciple of War cannot use Disciple of Magic), but it's possible that won't be the case. In which case maybe it'll be possible for Disciple of Magic classes to learn and use some melee skills.

There's also the possibility of more classes they've yet to unveil. Potentially some hybrid ones that utilize melee and magic.

they said something about a melee being able to heal if he learned it before, so a mage could use some melee abilities as well. (weaker abilities of course, since those spells doesn't belong to the class you're playing)

That reminds me, actually. I was watching one of the streams and on the character creation, all of the classes that weren't available were grayed out. In Limsa Lominsa there's an 'Arcanist's Guild' but it doesn't even appear in the class list.

    It's gotta be either:

    A. A new magic discipline (Hoping. They have the least amount of classes out of all of the disciplines, and that's just damn wrong.)

    B. Disciple of the Hand

    C. I've been trolled and it's a referring to alchemist or something.

During the next test period we need somebody to go investigate and talk to the NPCs at the guild to see if anything hints at a new class.

Well, you know what they say about assuming! All of the melee classes so far have ways to recover HP though (be it a straight conversion from TP to HP or absorbing through attacks), possibly could have just meant something as simple as that. Hopefully someone can test it tomorrow. I thought Conjurer actually starts out with Cure right off the bat, so maybe someone can try swapping to Thaumaturge and/or melee classes and see if it carries over.

There's a Musketeer guild in Limsa Lominsa too. People have come to the assumption that the guilds all refer to classes that'll be available, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. With all the gun toting NPCs I'd like to say it's a sure thing, but who knows with Square.

We get it, you hate the fuck out of wow. It doesn't change the fact that it is the most successful mmo on the market. You should play a game because it is fun for you. Wow is fun for the majority of its player base, just as FFXI is for its player base. I'm generalizing here to make a point. Stop acting like borrowing successful concepts from the most successful mmo to this date is a terrible thing to do. I've seen this throughout the entire thread where someone claims that wow comparisons are shitting up the thread, and yet for every wow comparison there are 1-10 SE fanboys defending archaic systems or saying that wow is a plague.

I would prefer a system where you are challenged by difficulty rather than time invested. Something around an hour (or about that) as Kirb mentioned with varying levels of difficulty depending on the content to appease different players or situations would be an ideal setting - for me anyway. I'm not a fan of tiered content either, but SE has surprised me before with unique systems that worked (not claiming that any FFXIV content will or will not be tiered, just speculating).

It'd definitely be weird if since the pirate theme is very heavy in LL there wouldn't be any pirate-styled class. Musketeer would fit there perfectly.

I'm guessing there have to be new classes coming along fairly soon. We basically have no buffing class, and only two mages at release already sounds kind of shady. I would expect a more defensive mage class as well, though that could be the same.

We've also got a gun class and a great sword class coming (at least), unless they break and give multiple weapon types to a single class. Personally I can't wait for my katana.

Agreed. I hope events/fights only last an hour on average since that's about my attention span on events before I keep asking myself if it's nearly done or not.

Also I hope SE learned from their mistakes in endgame in XI and either made a system where everyone gets rewarded (Point system like Assault, Einherjar, and Nyzul have.) or drops aren't piss poor so you don't need to camp the same thing for months/over a year just for one item.

How did you get anything about anything from what I said? All I was saying was that I don't care what they "borrowed" from WoW. At all. I really could care less where an idea came from as long as it's a good one.

I'd be glad if it started with Assault/Nyzul/Salvage/Einherjar/ZNM type events instead of Dynamis/Sky/Kings type events, and then would get better and better.

They'll just have to keep doing what they've done for past few years already. That'd be perfect.

Maybe, however having to repeat the same crap over due to poor drop rates gets fairly annoying. Either way as long as everything is instanced so you don't need to deal with Dynamis BS or something like that endgame should be pretty fun this time around.

You said you didn't give a fuck after claiming that there was no specific mention of which parts that FFXIV will be borrowing from wow. I'm sorry that I interpreted that as more wow-hate, but I'm not sure how you expected it to be conveyed other than that.

    Edit:

I agree on this mostly. Something similar to those systems would be cool, but with some tweaks of course.

Edit #2: Drop rates being one of the tweaks, imo.

True.. as long as the events are random enough to change everytime you enter, if just a bit (Nyzul) and short enough, it should take quite a long time before we get bored of 'em. That's the most important thing, if the drops are scarce this time too. Also something like nyzul ws's as intermediate rewards.

I wouldn't even mind Dynamis too much, if it were instanced instead of having to fight every other LS for a decent time slot, and if the drop rates were a bit higher.

I don't want them taking away NMs, though. Some people didn't like NM hunting, but a pretty big group of people did.

I can't say I'm a big fan of instances. I think they should be used sparingly, where it makes sense. Too many instances and it pretty much makes your MMO feel dead and lifeless.

Out of instance-events would be great too. Maybe kind of like the subligar/swift belt hunting in Sacrarium. ZNM system would be great too. ANNM's? Hell yeah~

Events like Dynamis and Salvage belong to an instance imo, but they shouldn't leave out other type of events either.

A new event similar to Dynamis would be fine if it wasn't so exceptionally long. Limit it down to an hour or an hour or a half or so (including time extensions if they used the same system) and it'd be a vast improvement alone.

They've already said they want content to be available to people with much more limited time than XI events generally required, so I'd like to think it goes without saying that events will require less time. Hopefully that'll be largely optional though. They certainly need to take in to account the (and I hate to use this term) casual players. But they also need to remember they have a "hardcore" player base that they need to cater to as well.

I don't think we have to worry about this. Aht Urhgan is pretty much proof that SE does indeed take casual players into account nowadays. And even the non-casual events were shortened down to maximum of 100mins.

That is if they haven't suddenly changed their views since 2006/07, but that sounds unlikely.

For me it mostly depends on what they do for NMs. I really hated 21+ hour spawns due to the competition, botting, drama, etc. I dont mind if it's something like Lizzy, Mee Deggi, etc. but please nothing like Fafnir.
