Add a tick box to any guildleve or Quest/Mission to look for a group for that specific quest.

    You could tick multiple events.

A search function with 3 sections, XP, Quest, Crafting.

XP works much the same way as FF11's but maybe takes into account other jobs you might play. (not sure how they would do this)

Quest would bring up a list of your active quests and you can search for people who are looking for the same quests.

Crafting Find a Crafter, pretty simple this one, dosn't need any explaining.

Obviously SE would have to program each quest with a flag so that they could link them together through the search funtion.

Edit - I forgot end game, maybe a 4th option to look for boss encounters or dungeons, where a list of bosses/dungeons would be presented much like dare i say WoW :O

And even if you "lose", you still may have accomplished something, like killing an NM that drops something or defeating a chariot although that wasn't your primary goal.
That's a good point; however, Salvage also had a few problems, at least when I played.
For one, the whole going in naked thing. I'll spare you the psychobabble as I think most people agree that at least on some level, it sucks.
But the main thing was the degree to which you walked away completely emptyhanded, having made no progress towards your goal at all. That's a big no-no.

When it comes to Guildleves, an article on Zam mentioned the following:
Here are the party sizes and difficulty levels from ☆(easy) to ☆☆☆☆☆(hard) Party sizes are approximated based on what we know, i.e. recommended parties are 6-8 members, and the max is 15 members.

    ☆ - 孤軍奮闘 (ko-gun-fun-tou) - A Lone Fighting Force , (solo)

    ☆☆ - 少数精鋭 (shou-suu-sei-ei) - An Elite Few , (below 6 members)

    ☆☆☆ - 推奨人数 (sui-shou-nin-zuu) - Recommened Party Size, (6-8 party)

    ☆☆☆☆ - 千軍万馬 (sen-gun-ban-ba) - A Great Army *lit. 1,000 Units & 10,000 Horses* , (9+ members)

    ☆☆☆☆☆ - 人海戦術 (jin-kai-sen-jutsu) - A Vertiable Ocean of People *similar in meaning to swarm/zerg* , (~ 15 members)
It only mentions that the difficulty selected is based on your party size. I'd be interested to know if that means the server automatically assigns a difficulty based on how many people are in the party when you accept the quest, or if it's selectable by the party leader.

If it is selectable, and since I've heard the rewards may be different based on the difficulty attempted, I wonder if there would be any significant benefit for selecting a harder difficulty with a smaller (yet more skilled) party.

I'm guessing it works like FoV, everyone in the party should be on the leve, SE said that only people on the same leve would get rewarded.

Aetherite = the new field manuals.

I just want everyone to know that jumping has now been confirmed for 14. Anyone with Alpha access should be able to tell you, as even I heard it through the grapevine.

That's why some kind of intermediate reward could be implemented. Alexandrite works, kind of- but it's not the best example of what I'm thinking. Nyzul weapons are a decent example as well.

And as for what not to do, it shouldn't be like Einherjar- the gear is alright, but you only get the items once and then the points are pretty much meaningless. That's why it could be good if you could get those intermediate rewards for a long time, as long as you do the event, if possible.

Like Alex, which can always be sold for gil, but there wasn't nearly enough of it per run for everyone to count as a real, satisfying "reward". However, when there were only few people that could lot Alex, it worked a lot better. I felt it was satisfying enough. SE just has to make it so everyone can benefit from it as much as I did, in XIV.

They don't care and I don't really blame them, but I'm honestly hoping that XIV fills the niche I belong to, smaller playerbase though it may be. I don't want SE to try stealing all of the players from WoW, because the only way to do that would be creating a game I wouldn't like.

As to the whole WoW/originality/copy thing, who cares. If XIV is influenced by something in another MMO, it doesn't mean that it's automatically a clone, or even similar at all to the other MMO. After all, XI is arguably heavily influenced by Everquest, but it still kept its own original identity.

I don't really think such simple, standard stuff like a minimap or ability slots can be said to be exclusively inspired by WoW, but by the current MMO and videogame RPG market in general. And there's honestly no shame in taking bits and pieces of tried and true things and putting a spin on them to make something even better. It's what WoW did, it's what XI did.

Nothing is new under the sun, after all.
Why sell something at a price of $10,000 that 10,000 pro users will buy, when you can sell a item at 1,000 that a million casual users will buy? Its the same with most company's (apple comes to mind ever try and talk with someone in the store about anything outside "app + buy" ?) I sorta hope SE holds their large hard-core crowed they have. I know they want to dip their fingers into the casual crowed, just dont throw the users who loved what you did in the past under the bus is all I ask for.

Add HNMs, timed spawns, and such. What I think I hope for is where FFXI stands today, There is no reason we cant (in time) have a system that works for both. FFXI I think in its old age just about came as close to mastering the Casual + hard core player base thing.

WoW's monetary system wasn't perfect... making gold was piss easy, and almost entirely useless. Even though I've spent 6 years bitching about being poor in XI, i'd prefer that over the "Shit... wtf am i supposed to do with all this gold" feeling I had in WoW. The only things you "had" to spend money on were things you didn't actually need. Easy is not the same as good.

Real fuckin' funny, Rocl. Give the ambiguous possibility of jumping and watch us squirm.

    Sadistic son of a bitch.

Out of curiosity, is anybody working on an actual list of constructive ideas for people (both solo and group required) to test during tomorrow's Alpha?
