I wonder what FFXI % are in Japan. Also, what % FFXI users are japanese.
Would be funny to read all the NA/EU rants about the game being not like WoW when they're like 40% of the playerbase, or even less.
It would be like Blizzard screamin in panic because japanese players dislike pretty much everything about their muscular characters.
I'm callin em Lady LaLa's from now on. Werk it she's a free betch baby~♫
Wow wasn't really that big back in the day either. Subscriptions sure skyrocketed once they released it in China (which SE didn't do) and made it uber casual (which SE didn't do).
So for the type of game that FFXI is (not the same as WoW, I'm glad that's cleared up) it did well.
Even if you couldn't sit on a chair.
I'm amazed too, yeah.
Before you assholes get into it: Games can't be casual or "hardcore", only gamers. Casual and serious describe the way a person treats something.
You can be hardcore with anything. FFXI, WoW, baking, cleaning, etc etc.
Not to remember how much commercials WoW did. Besides, Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo are larger titles in the Western world than Final Fantasy is, so Blizzard got free commercial through that.
Edit: Is it just me, or does the above screenshot picture a Galka wearing Errant/Mahatma Houppelande (sp?)?
HULK HAPPY!!!!??
That face is the best face
WoW obviously caters to a more casual player base. I look at it like this. In WoW you can play for 2 hours a night and progress without needing too much help whether it be gathering herbs/mats or questing etc. In FFXI, there is certainly a need for a group or at least another player to assist. While I enjoy both, I really dig the idea of being able to play an hour or two without needing another player if I can't grant that much time to my gaming that night.
