I wonder, is the kind of AoE effect based on the spell that's being used, or the weapon it's being used with?
Example: According to the site, Thaumaturge AoEs are conal. Does this mean spells learned with Thaumaturge arms are conal by nature, or that using a Thaumaturge arm allows you to make spells conal?
It would be interesting if using Fire as a Thaumaturge made it a conal AoE, rather than just a circular AoE. Likewise, it would be interesting if a Conjurer casting Blind made it AoE, rather than conal.
Do the AOE spells all require a specific target? Or can you cast them on an area on the map?
Naw i don't think it was reflect, i think the mobs main way of attacking is just casting. Theres so much spam though I dont pay attention to the chat log. Its flooded with how much exp other people are getting, effects wearing off, people drawing out their weapon, etc. and theres no way to filter that stuff as of now :/
My comp kind of lags in game too, if anyone is curious about what they might need to run this s.o.b.

What are all the amenities in Limsa Lominsa, what guilds reside there?
Fred, since you played a Conjurer maybe you can elaborate a little more on how spells and mp efficiency will work.
I know it's too early for comparisons but I was a BLM main in FFXI, I quit a couple of years ago and I was hoping it's counterpart in this game would be a little more efficient or viable than it was post ToA.
Thanks.
i got a few informations to share; dont know if they have been posted yet but ill still post:
- physical level doesnt change when you change class
- hp/mp and all attributes like str, vit etc dont change when you change class; however, in case you raised a stat after a level up you keep the upgrade (seems like all classes do have the same starter stats; at last lancer and minder do; dont know if diffrent races change anything)
- physical attack, accu, evasion, magic accu, magic damage changed after class change
- physical level is not limited to your class level
- class level up doesnt change attributes nor hp/mp
trying to find out next how the exp gain will be for physical level after you changed to a level 1 class
Probably an alpha bug or lag like you mentioned?
In the Pooky vid I'm sure I saw Izzy cast (fire?) on a mob and hit another nearby?
Not really a mechanic but a screenshot of the moon since no one I've seen has taken a good one yet and it's pretty in FFXIV. More info on anything Conjurer would also be nice.
EDIT
Also resists show up in the log for those that didn't know
The roseling partially resists insert here's fire, taking 47 points of damage.
Alright, so Attack, acc, etc changes when you switch classes but STR etc stays the same.
This might mean that STR itself does nothing, and depending on your level, it simply scales attack or something.
I hope. ;p
8800gt is kind of weak so you should expect some framerate problems.
I think its the minimum they recommend.
I just upgraded from a 8800 GTS (less mem than GT) to a HD 5770 let me say its a WORLD of difference, I could play well with the 8800 GTS but with newer games like Just Casue 2 and Metro 2033 there really is no comparison between the two cards.
Ahhhh i dont want to have to buy a $200 vid card :/
which is why im getting this game for ps3 asap lol
I'm running an ASUS laptop with core i7, 4gb ram, and a 5730. How might that stack up for this game? I sort of bought it assuming it'd be enough for FFXIV.
I'm not sure what you mean by does nothing but scales attack.
We would have to see a 16 STR Physical Level 1, Rank 1 Marauder compared to a 32 STR Physical Level 2, Rank 1 Marauder.
I think Physical level is just a representation of how many points you have to allocate to your stats.
Then everything we learn will change before the game is even released.
