edit: bla ><
Yeah totally i've never been in an alpha before or anything. Usually most art assets are done by alpha.
i dont know man, how old is your ps3? that game made my brain explode. best lookin game evar? gets my vote. but anyways, yea i dont know why the didnt make FFXIII seemless (dont even get me started on this game, i got a lot of complaints.)
and i wonder just how "seamless" FFXIV really is. will it be the whole game world is seamless (sans instances, cutscenes, etc.), or will it just be major regions? who knows.
LOL at people bitching at that map, maybe you should take a minute to look at how massive those area's are for a second.
@ Sinzfeldt I think by the time you crank the resolution up and max the textures and have all the shaders, lighting and weather effects in the game turned on its guna look a shit-ton better.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Alpha is the minimum specs and prob not far from how the PS3 version is guna look.
Some of you need to remember that its an MMO game, its never guna come close to looking like GoW3.(which is a single playered game Duh)
damn if the ps3 version is gonna be a really big difference from the pc version. I am taking the pc version instead !
all this complaining about very little landscape, lol Jeezus H Christ. would you like them to add a six flags great adventure? maybe a boardwalk with some carnival games and a macdonals by limsa lominsa. c'mon man. you're talking about seeing one region via screenshots all taken in the same general vicinity. and the ones that are taken in further traveled places actualy look pretty cool (ex; the caves).
do you see that map? i bet my first born about 20% of it has been explored. alpha guys, alpha. the game isnt comin out tomorrow.
I hope this isn't the mind set of actual testers. Nothing will ever get improved or fixed if everyone keeps thinking "Oh, well it's just an alpha." You do realize its OK to discuss things you don't like right? I would think the alpha/beta stage would be the best time to give constructive criticism.
why would both versions be different ( and i doubt we're going to hear "ps3 limitations problem" )
very true, but i dont see why pc players underestimate the ps3 like its a ps2 to pc comparison. my ps3 can do just about anything your pc can do, without dropping a ton of cash on it. i think both versions are going to be extremely similar in looks, and i would'nt be surprised if SE gives weather effect and shading/lighting options for the console version of FFXIV as well. the only difference i can imagine is that pc users will be able to push it past what its intended to look like, but imo it makes the games look kind of wierd (ever seen ffxi or WoW in full res, maxed out everything?). looks gross lol.
I dunno how many times even SE stated that during alpha build of FFXIV you will not be given full textures, maybe 100x???? ...........Soooo yeah the stuff you see will probably look about 50% better come release of final version. In alpha they are most likely focused on game playability and mechanics and as the game comes closer to beta and open beta they will release more graphical enhancements. Your computer will have a large roll to do with you experience this time around as the game will be ported the opposite way to ps3 from PC.
Capping frames, making sure that majority of the testers can run it, texture capping is all being done this time around so everyone who has'nt bought a new 4core cpu (the majority of u) can keep up with the demands of this new age of computing. For the first time in a longtime, the coding keep up with the technology...... just sayin.
Another question:
Why does gear say for requirements Rank 8~ or something. Does that mean you can still equip it at lower levels but it's not as effective?
No I think you are over estimating the PS3
It's been over 18 months since I upgraded my PC and there is no way my PS3 could run some of the games I play at 1080pmy ps3 can do just about anything your pc can do, without dropping a ton of cash on it.
They will have the same shaders most likely but I expect the PC to have better lighting and texture settingsi think both versions are going to be extremely similar in looks, and i would'nt be surprised if SE gives weather effect and shading/lighting options for the console version of FFXIV as well.
That because FF11 and WoW use low resoution textures, hopefully FF14 will have option for both.the only difference i can imagine is that pc users will be able to push it past what its intended to look like, but imo it makes the games look kind of wierd (ever seen ffxi or WoW in full res, maxed out everything?). looks gross lol.
Well.. i think the complaints against the areas are few because theres really little to truly complain about.
For one, Limsa Lominsa is a starting area, and starting areas usually don't need to be too fancy because people are still getting used to the game and its environment. And there is beauty in simplicity. Natural environments are always kinda nice to replicate. Not every area needs to have some floating this floating that or a gimmick that makes it special.
LL as a town is pretty nice. Its got different levels which is a welcome change and is built around a bunch of islets, which is pretty unique already. Its unfair but compared to any XI town, it already exudes more personality.
Secondly, the areas are huge and really pretty. And this is while its in alpha and graphics have yet to be optimized. We also know that there are a whole lot of areas within this region that aren't open to use yet. Based on the map shown, theres 2 smaller outposts in the region, 2 towers, 2 lighthouses and many islets to it. There's also a bunch of tunnels that lead to caves.
Anyway, I'm sold on the architecture and environmental art direction of XIV. Apart from official media, also found some pics off another XIV site that support this even further.
Spoiler: show
and these are just alpha areas o.o
