I found A weapon shop.. However, it only had swords, axes, and hammers.. All three had a 0 level version, then 2 higher level versions.. The 0 version is buy able by any class.. Also, there were 2 shields, but neither started at 0, as level 5 or 6 was the lowest.. I didn't fight much, so I didn't get to buy a shield with my sword.. I did have a theory that maybe different cities had different starting weapons available? Someone found a level 18 pair of H2H in town, but no 0 version.. It's entirely possible that I just didn't find where all the other weapons are..
I switched from Archery to Sword classes.. My physical level was only 3, but my Archery was level 4, and my Sword class was 0.. When I switched, my HP stayed the same.. As did my stats I believe..
Unfortunately, when I left town, all the mobs were gone, so I never got to fight much.. The fighting I did get to do with Archery proved to be futile at the time.. Apparently, I ran out of arrows while fighting a mob.. Well, couple problems.. One, I couldn't re-equip more arrows, even though I had 99 in my inventory, during the fight.. So then my character just started one handed punching the mob.. This is very insignificant damage.. The mob proceeded to beat the shit out of me, as I couldn't kill it.. I died, and crumpled in a heap and dropped my bow on the ground.. I was able to equip arrows once I home pointed..
I got aggro'd at one point by a mob, but I didnt realize it at first.. He kind of ran past me, then turned around, ran up to my back and hit me..
Not sure if anyone plays with a gamepad or console controller on PC.. However, I've played FFXI for 7 years on my PS2 controller with USB port.. So I was pretty excited to see the option for gamepad in the config program that comes with alpha.. It works pretty well.. Basically everything you can do can be done with the ps2 controller.. My camera controls are inverted on the x-axis, and there's no option to flip, so I had to config the right joystick backwards for it to work the way I'm used to.. Also, there's no warning that you have the same button assigned to different tasks.. This proved very annoying the first night when I had the action command and camera view on the same button.. Everytime I went to click on a mob/ncp/player/do a skill/read through quest chats, my camera view would be zooming in and out.. But that's more of a bug than game play design.. At this point, i've got the controller configed perfectly and prolly will use it full time in this game too..
