Most of you are forgetting this is the stage where SE will be pulling all nighters, frantically trying to figure out why this is or isn't doing that. Bugs and reports are piling up faster then they can solve them right now. Once they get the ball rolling, and the more important issues are dealt with, their pace will pick up.

So a 2010 is still possible, but be prepared for it to get pushed back to 2011. SE has already, explicitly stated XIV will come out when they feel it's ready to.

They should cut the groups into 2 and allow the first half to log in for the first 2 hours and the second half in the last 2.

It says Rank 8~, not Rank 8. God damn people.

In my opinion, this means that the equipment can be used at Rank 8 or higher, as opposed to 8 or lower, which I would think would be typed as ~8 instead of 8~. Perhaps this means that equip increases its stats as you gain higher levels as opposed to syncing down to lower levels like was previously stated by other posters.

BTW how challenging is combat so far compared to FFXI and "other" game(s)?
Is some1 already able to tell what mob color is optimal for exping solo, or in a group + how is exp rate influenced by group size?

Hard to say since nothing is balanced in the Alpha.

I wish they would leave it unbalanced
Right now with HP being as it is, Bloodbath for marauders once you got to like level 20 would be giving more hp back to you than you have total. A one hit full heal as long as you didn't miss. It'll be a sad day when that gets capped to something like "up to 30% of max health"

I don't think we've heard from anyone leveling a Disciple of the Hand or Land yet... all Disciples of War/Magic.

Would actually love to hear if anyone has started out Mining or Blacksmithing--how the combat experience at the beginning plays out (especially if you've tried a DoW or DoM and can compare the two) and how your experiences with gathering or crafting have been so far.
