It becomes a problem when you are annoyed that others aren't optimized like you and thus you're not doing things as efficiently as possible (in a group).

As we play the game longer and longer, these things start to matter more and more... making the game less enjoyable in the process, because we can't force people to be as efficient as possible if they don't care about it. It's actually thing I'm quite jealous of, because those players are probably enjoying themselves and the game much more than the "efficient" ones.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't want to do my best when the game comes out or be the best.
Nothing wrong with being elite or elitest...a year or 2 into the game that is.
We got "end-game" shells forming already and shit... closing off apps already lol.
Why can't we just dick around in the game for awhile before trying to figure out every nuance? "Because we don't have any time to waste!" It's a game, we play them to waste time...

If you ever decide to get into endgame, and realise how much of a headstart you gain simply from doing it from the very beginning, you'd regret not doing it earlier.

The idea isn't not to waste time, but to waste less time doing things you don't want to do. Or at least to do so while already having achieved something.

Going to use XI as an example. When Sky was first released and the Shijin were introduced, those LS who killed the Shijin simply because they were high level (mostly JP) and cohesive enough made a fortune out of those NMs. The synth drops were worth so much more then, and when they were able to make tons of cash by farming said NMs and liquidating the assets. What competition? They had a monopoly.. and it is those same players who are still cash rich to this day. Come late to endgame, and you can achieve all that, but the longer you wait, the more opportunity you lose, and then everyone else catches up.

As in the case of any social environment really, its easier to maintain a top position than it is to advance to it in any given amount of
time.

edit: And on the other hand, when you're at the top of your game, you can afford to fool around a bit more in many cases and actually enjoy the game however you like it.

Being elitist yourself doesn't mean you have to get annoyed when people aren't playing as well as yourself. I'm of the mindset you should always try and play at your best, but just because of that it doesn't mean I hold anything against people who aren't playing or geared as well as myself. The only issues I have with people in groups is when they're flat out retarded and refuse to take any advice you might attempt to give them. Go ahead and be comfortable with what you've got, but if you're not willing to at least attempt to improve you're not worth my time.

The problem with that is that the developers most of the time can't keep providing content that would keep these "pioneers" busy. I don't think the point of content updates is to provide this kind of minority enough content in the first place, but for the slower population that isn't going to get to endgame as fast as them.

So while the first people to hit the endgame would get the most profit and most enjoyment out of it, they'd ultimately get bored a lot faster than those who take their time.

That's my theory anyways.

Is it possible to make like two distinct threads similar to the FFXI data mining vs. discussion threads. One explicitly for information only (stuff like job abilities, deities, and jobs), and the other for discussion. This thread grows by pages every hour and its obnoxious to scan through reading all the painfully idiotic derails.

That would be great as long as it wasn't too much work for mods to keep up with.
