From the JP test site?
Rough and ready from a Japanese friend on the way out to lunch.
It's about alpha/beta testing.
Alpha tests are at fixed times on 19, 20, 21, and 25 Mar.
beta test begin after 1 April, and details will be given out at about that time.
Your characters will be deleted/reset between alpha and beta.
win.
now we need an NA schedule.
id check the forums, but hey, i wasn't picked.
BAAAAWWWWWWWW
I almost wish I could turn this forum off when I go to the main forum here, the suspense is killing me!!
But what says Square Enix Community, since this is kinda against the NDA? =P
OMG the game is ruined. If only I'd been protected from this calamitous information somehow. Prepare to be sued for the entire cost of development + lost revenue by S-E.![]()
kinda of need this info here cause stupid forums need the satchel which is at home![]()
I never imagined such a short round of alpha, only 4 tests and a total of 18 hours of testing time? I have a feeling alpha is going to be serverly restricted (only 1-3 guildleves all in one zone). If they want any meaningful catches from 18 hours it will have to be.

FU!!!!!!!!
Batman: Arkham Asylum: Game of the Year Edition announced!
Well, I never imagined they'd do alpha testing.
Also, I wonder if the shift from alpha to beta is radical, or is it just changing the name of the test-type of thing. Why not call the testing of this month beta as well?
No schedule on the NA Forums yet.
What I dont understand is what you can possibly learn in 4 days from a few hours of testing in alpha. Will it really help that much?
There might not be much to test, I can't remember if it was in regards to alpha or beta but someone from Square was saying 10% content would be in it. It may well be alpha with emphasis on stress testing.
Do the servers connect to clients? Do the servers crash? Do the NA and EU connections work? Are there IP conflicts? Is the client causing crashes on certain configurations? Can the character selection handle the load? Is there latency/lag?
Alphas are for technical issues, not for game play issues.
Kinda hard to stress test with such a limited number of people. Would make more sense to do that once they add more people with the next few rounds of beta invites.
Maybe it's just to sort out any opening day crashes/errors/blunders before the real test begins in April, rather than let everyone download the client in April and have people complain that they can't connect, or that their computer crashes when they level up or finish a quest or something.
Could be their first major test of various hardware, too. They'll have PCs with specs all across the board trying out FFXIV for the first time during the alpha, something they couldn't really do in a lab.
